Chugging Craft Beer: Why?

There's an idea! At my wedding I can spray CBS like a baseball team that won the world series. I'm sure everyone be impressed and not at all pissed off about the stout stains haha.

 

That would be epic.

 

I’m really surprised no one’s mentioned the Just Keep Tastin’ channel with PK (formerly of Off Color Brewing) and co-worker Doug.

Needless to say, I love this channel, and these guys. Beer isn’t meant to be too serious, and these guys bring some true levity to the excess of snobbery...by impressively slamming some really insane beers!

Eh, so what? I see guys eating 20 Reapers, chugging vodka , eating gross shit, it's for You Tube. It's their money whatever they want to do is fine with me, stupid and a waste, but whatever.

 

I don’t see it as a “macho” thing, or purely for social media or attention, but just to do it. I don’t think the guys from Just Keep Tastin’ were doing it purely for “attention” or purely for “social media”, but it’s just to cheekily prod people who are taking beer way too seriously. I think it’s great. And there should always be levity in enjoying beer, and, at times, less scrutinization. Beer is fun, and when it becomes way too serious to some, they begin to miss the point, and drift further into the weeds.

 

Not all so called "craft beer" - how I detest this pretentious and meaningless expression- is high ABV . My favourite beer of all time is a session mild from a tiny brewery and at 3.4% ABV is not only extremely chuggable but designed for it.

 

If you have to question why in the world anyone would do it...yeah, that's why they do it.

Also, I chug craft beers all the time. I chug craft pilsners without question.

 

Pouring into a glass? What amateurs, everyone knows you should strawpedo cantillon.

 

Top to bottom, all in one drink?

 

I have similar disbelief.

 

Well, yeah. If you chug craft, then it's either for the faster buzz, or because you're thirsty. May as well have shot, with a water chaser. Or BMC, same thing.

 

Or it's a so called Craft (stupid, stupid vacuous expression) beer designed to be drunk in volume , true to the traditions of beer. There are countless numbers of them this side of the pond.

 

I don't get the serious nature of this community sometimes. Beer is just beer. It's supposed to be fun and not taken so seriously. Everyone tried to differentiate this community from that uptight unapproachable wine one, yet it's evolved into just that. Drink your own beer and who cares what anybody does with their own. Nobody needs your judgement.

The YouTubers are doing it as click bait and people are falling for it Hook line and sinker.

 

I like a certain amount of sophistication though. In fact one the strengths of this site.

Respect beer, chug with style!

 

Chugging anything is a stunt done for the same reasons other stunts are performed. Perhaps I should've worked the phrase lack of reason into that sentence.

What about those crazy Bavarians in their lederhosen quaffing one of those decorative ceramic boots? I once saw a fellow from Pittsburgh chug six straight Iron City cans just before he puked. It might have been dangerous but it was hilarious. Chugging is crass and stupid and so are a lot of people.

 

Man back in the early 80's in college we had more respect than this. No one, I mean no one would shotgun a bud/miller (reg or lite) product. That was reserved for Busch, if you did you were considered an asshole

 

It's a schtick that is performed for entertainment value, much like swallowing a sword. It just happens that beer is a little more in vogue these days than swords.

 

I participated once in a chugging contest. Was slow but got credit for the style of slowness, I appeared to do my best.

Don't worry, it was the time before craft beers.
