Honestly, it's show. Some people have the contacts or money to chug hard to get expensive beer (even whiskey, scotch, vodka, etc.). If that upsets you, take a week off beer and research alternatives. With 6000+ breweries in the USA, you'll find alternatives, and when you acquire those bottles it'll be up to you on whether or not you want to chug it for attention/views or (review and) savor it.

Although, to be blunt, it's the same as seeing a driver bottom out a Lambo when he's shifting. Does he lack the basic ability to drive a manual transmission? Perhaps. Does he deserve to drive that car? Maybe not, but he's got the money and I don't. Not like I can take him to court over failing to drive a Lambo smoothly, nor can I sue or get upset about some rich person who's chugging a $50 bottle of beer. They've got money to blow, and they've decided to support the industry - great.

On a hot day, yea buddy. My favorite hot weather/ yard work beer is Pils Urquell, crushable in the heat.

Personally, if people want to chug it, let them. I won't do it myself, nor do I have the desire to, but that doesn't mean people won't do it. I think it's rather silly personally, but hey, I am not the one doing it so why should I care. It isn't my money.
There is one moment, or a video more like, which comes to mind. A youtuber Alabama Boss beer bongs Sam Adams Utopias. Like, why? For views, or a quick way to get hammered? Here is the original video for those curious to see.

Wether or not it was the whole Utopias or not, I can't fathom why someone would do that, especially of an offering of that value and magnitude.

Lol, vodka would be cheaper. Quaffing lighter beers is one thing, but pounding Stouts and high abv beers is another.

I have before. Not often, though. I drank all 12 oz of a Vunderbar! pilsner in one go more than once.

My god, that man is an animal. I saw a bottle of utopias once, but couldn't pull the trigger. Can't imagine chugging it.
You know who loves these chuggers? Brewers. You know these guys are buying more of these beers to actually enjoy them later.

Having watched Bill (The Fox) Foster down beers like they were water, everything else is Amateur Hour.

Old habits die hard. Otherwise, maybe sign of alcoholism.

I can drink some craft beers faster than other (Oberon out of a can is a good example)

but I like to at least enjoy my beer for 15-20 minutes

I never shotgun. I do however plink at empty beer cans with my air rifle.

As with most things, social media ruins it.

Every can brewery I have worked at or drunk in the back at will eventually feature shotgunning. If the brewery does a high ABV run, you are definitely going to see guys there shotgunning. Why? It’s funny and snotty and naughty. It’s enjoyable sometimes to do something other than what you are ‘supposed’ to do, whatever the hell that means. I think it’s also important to let your inner frat boy/girl out occasionally or you’ll end up a boring, stiff, old square.

That being said, this is free beer being shotgunned by people who obviously respect beer - it’s their life’s passion. The idea of standing in a line and/or paying loads of money for something and then not even enjoying it is beyond me...

However, that’s the wonderful thing about living in a free country! Spend all the time and money you want on ridiculous stuff. I don’t understand $700 sneakers, or $500 tickets to see Taylor Swift, or believing the world is flat either. But it’s not like they are filming themselves chugging Utopias, then getting in a car. If you aren’t hurting anyone, do whatever the hell you want!
    So chug on, chuggers!

Good lord, why do you people hate fun? Bunch of judgey pricks in here. I do it neither for the attention or the likes. I live chug with friends because I want to. And who cares if someone domes the end of a whale? It's their beer. Just because you don't have the money or access doesn't mean they're wrong. Lighten up Francis!

I like to chug beer, I've been doing it since i was 13.
I've never eaten Tide Pods and I've never done the Cinnamon Challenge
I've chugged offline and have posted on FB. I'm in a group with some friends and we make sports bets and loser chugs any beer set for the bet. I find that fun, we give eat other shit for slow chugs, etc
I've chugged beer that people said was "hard to get", was it really if we both stood in the same line at the brewery to get it.
I always look at it as it's my beer I can do what I want with it. I know we can talk it through, but we aren't going to change the way each other think about the subject

TBH it's fun, it's funny, and craft beer used to be able to laugh at itself. Independent beer is losing it's punk rock, F the man worldview, and that's sad.

I'd say if it knocks the ego of craft as a whole down a couple pegs, chug on.

Or get w/ the REAL cool kids and start shotgunning crowlers :sunglasses:
