Craft beer is fun. Being drunk is fun. Chugging delicious craft beer is fun. Pissing off people like 90% of this thread contains is 10x more fun. It's just beer, people. If you don't like people chugging beer, then don't fucking watch chug videos. Fucking generation of *********s that have to have their nose in everyone's business. Grow up.

Wow, shit got pretty defensive quick. For being a fun-loving group of guys, y'all are taking this to heart too much. Making a video for shock value on YouTube will get you some reactions, mos of which you won't like. I drink IMP stouts cold, but I don't freak out when people tell me they taste better warm. I agree with them with the caveat that I just like cold beer. No biggie.

Haha I gave you a like for at least admitting that you aren't some social warrior outraging nerds for the sake of making important statements about free speech or some shit, and even though the analogy is a poor one.

Eh, you’d be surprised. If I down a 12% or higher beer, it’s gonna get me a nice little insta-buzz. But “normal” beers, in the 5-10% range aren’t gonna phase me too much. If I was doing it to get shitty faster, I’d need to chug multiple times in a row.

That said, I didn’t realize goofing off and poking fun at people who take beer seriously qualifies as “flouting social norms” or “making important statements about free speech” or whatever.

Hahahaha whoopsie! Guess it has to be all shits and giggles all the time if you’re a fun-loving kinda guy, right? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Sorry to weigh down the discussion with some perspective outside of the “chuggers are immature douchebag bros” vibe that was going on in here for the first 3 pages.

I apologize, you're entitled to your opinion. I just got a kick out of guys logging on to act like "At least I trolled snobs" when they're the one who's upset and actually creating an account to do it. Complaining how people are too serious about beer while being too serious about chugging.

I have no issue with chugging anyway, more of a curiousity to me than an offensive act. Again, my problem isn't with you (an experienced BAer who has contributed to the site) more annoyance at one time log on dudes showing up to solely be confrontational in a conversation they were no part of. Perhaps non chuggers could have took it easier on our chugging brothers. I personally hope both sides of this divisive subject come to understand each other. I'll just shut up now and let this thread die so we can all get back to talking about things we can somewhat agree on. I'm gonna chug my enjoy by now as an offering of peace to you. Cheers!

They're doing it for a reaction, not to enjoy the beer. And it's working.

Huh, that is a great perspective. Maybe you can tell me which parts are the ones where I am too serious hoping to see chuggers vomit on themselves and, if I'm lucky, fall down into a pool of vomit, because it makes me laugh, and chuggers setting up cameras and accounts to post video of themselves drinking a liquid quickly qualifies as goofing off and poking fun at me?

To me it sounds like chuggers are the ones taking shit too seriously, and I am the one making fun of their seriousness with my enjoyment of their folly, but maybe you can point me to where I am getting this wrong?

I don't chug, in the typical sense. But, sometimes a pint disappears after 2-3 "sips". Or, such as right now, I'm just cracking my third 12oz can in the half-hour I've been home after working 2 split shifts at 2 different jobs today. sometimes beer just goes down quick and easy.

Really though, I just wanted to post on this thread. I read a few posts when the thread was new, but then forgot about it. I just noticed it was up to 4 pages, and was curious what everybody had to say. But then, i thought "do I really give enough of a shit on this topic to read 4 pages?", and, no. No I do not. Carry on y'all, carry on.

I think it was the part where you suggested eating multi-colored food before the big hurl. Real Brotatochips don't do that tie-dye unicorn puke, they just eat eat Cheetos so that they are as safe as a construction worker. See? It's waaay more manly that way.

I don't think I said that you are taking anything too seriously. I actually re-read my post three times to make sure I didn't infer something that I didn't intend.

My response to you was primarily to object to the suggestion that poking fun at those who *do* take beer too seriously is some kind of statement about free speech.

You do understand that, for the most part (one-day old burner accounts notwithstanding), the people who have come to this thread to advocate for chugging are mostly objecting to the personal attacks and trashing presented here, right? No one is defending the Serious Topic of chugging. No one is offended that people aren't respecting the integrity of chugging.

I'm thinking that me chugging a 10 -14 abv BA stout would come right back up very soon? But I've never had warm stout foam come out my nose before, so there's that. We used to chug bud bottles upside down in college. Get a pillow, set it against the wall with your head on it, kick your feet up against the wall in a head stand, get someone to hold your feet there. Someone else would give you the bottle, chug. Burp or foam out your nose was a real possibility. Projective vomiting while in a head stand, amazing how much distance one can achieve. Oh to be young again.

I was referring to the slightly angry tone in some of replies to this thread; I honestly have no idea if they're certified 'neck-bearded shitlords' or not. I guess I could've just replied with this, but it probably would've been deleted:

It's cool, I get it. My beard covers my whole lower face, so no offense there. And god, I hope I'm not a shitlord haha. I do like the ring to that name though. Maybe it'll be my character name on a videogame in the future...

Hahaha, no personal offense intended. I myself had a beard (not quite neckbeard length, i suck at growing facial hair!) about 3 days ago until I shaved it. Now my face feels incredibly naked. So yes, I was a borderline neckbeard. I've never been a shitlord though, thankfully (despite what my fiancee says!)

Oh, I thought neckbeard is when it only grows on your neck (not a good look) I guess mine is neckbeard length lol. But I don't maintain it, so I look more like a hobo or mountain man than a hipster. It helps soak up the spilled beer at least haha.

Wow, ok so read through this entire thread and I didn't expect this to resonate so much with the community but I'm glad it did. Some good and funny discourse here and I think I came to an understanding on the whole situation. One of you suggested that I knowingly posted this to talk shit on chuggers from my ivory tower or some such nonsense and I guess I could understand where that might come across because that lends to my whole point. Everyone comes into craft beer from different angles, at different ages, and for different reasons. I got into craft beer as a salesman, working in the industry where you are trained on all of the things that make beer beer, from which hops provide which aromas and flavors to which adjuncts produce a better quality of residual sugar flavor in your beer. My start to beer was more analytical and I learned to enjoy it from that perspective, sipping, glassware, and subtlety. Maybe others did not but that doesn't make them less than me nor does it make me better than anyone else at all. Some people probably came into craft beer through a friend at a party and they liked it 'cause it tasted good and it was stronger and they've always been chuggers and maybe saw it as a challenge to take down a goliath of a beer or whatever. I'm not that guy, from that angle, but I genuinely get it now. Seriously thank you all for answering my query for making me look at things from a different perspective and taking the time to even respond, even if you didn't agree with me or my reasons for posting. Cheers!

Stan, I've been homebrewing for 20 years and have a deep appreciation for fine craft beer. I don't get it either. I don't know if it's a mocho thing or not but it is a dumb thing. Anything of high quality is ment to be enjoyed, they may as well pour it out. If they want to show their stuff chug some rot-gut whiskey and leave the good stuff to us. But, at least they are supporting the breweries. Prost!
