To celebrate America's independence, FloatingSheep created a Twitter-based map using geotagged tweets sent within the continental US between June 22 and June 28. Out of roughly 10 million tweets they extracted 17,686 containing the word "church" and 14,405 with "beer."

What they don't explain is if they filtered on "beer" as a whole or partial word, the latter of which would have extracted the popular "#craftbeer" hashtag.

If it's good enough for monks, it's good enough for me!

Washington and Multnomah counties are dark blue. Clackamas County is red. Not surprising at all.

What if I were having a beer at the church brew works in pittsburgh? Does it count for both?

Although the church part of it is long gone, their beers are definitely not bad. Great food, too.

The (admittedly few) people I know who are involved with the Knights of Columbus definitely all like beer.

I don't think the blood of Christ was carbonated.

The church I go to often meets at craft breweries around the front range. So yeah, I've had many beers at church

Very interesting. I'm glad there are people willing to do this shit. I'm too lazy.

Glad to see my county, Coös County was more beer than church. Not surprised see that Aroostook County, Maine has no data. I'm pretty sure they just got electricity up there last year.

Lots of Bavarians go to morning Mass first, then drink a Mass of Hefeweizen with their Weisswurst brunch afterwards. Doubt they tweet either one, however....

We're all disappointed with Utah—and not just because of this survey.
