I'm looking to start a study group for folks also preparing for the Certified Cicerone exam. Any interest out there?

I dont really get what it is. I googled and read it. But it still seems pretty vague.

It's a certification for beer knowledge, especially service oriented. The 2nd level, which is what OP wants to take, is a pretty intense test involving a long written exam and practical tasting component plus short demonstration.

Do certain jobs typically require this?

No. Not yet at least. It's nowhere near as ubiquitous as the Sommelier program. It's definitely a way to prove you have a certain level of knowledge, though.

Very interested, I'll shoot you a message later on. I've been searching for a group but scheduling and moving around for school hasn't helped.

It's pretty huge out West, but it seems to be a solid leg up in Boston. My CBS combined with Somm 1 got me work pretty quickly

I live in central MA. But I'm interested as well. It's required for my new job at Wormtown Brewery.

Could maybe be interested if it's not too far from the Waltham area. I already have my beer server one so I'd be looking to prepare for level II and maybe split the costs of the off-flavor kit with a bunch of folks. PM me if that seems like it's something you're trying to setup

ok, well, it looks like i'll have to eat the $153 cost (with shipping) myself. i'm ordering a kit first thing friday 5/22, and hope to do the practice exercise as soon as i receive the package. if anyone is willing to chip in $20 and wants to partake, let me know. i'll aim to conduct the tasting either thursday (5/28) or friday (5/29) (or even wednesday 5/27 if the package arrives quickly enough), probably at my address in wayland. if we actually get more than 5 people total, i'll lower the requested donation to just $15. i might also be persuaded to open some rarities from my cellar... (cantillon, perhaps...? )
