Can you post a picture or two? Curious if this is an issue of the bottle shattering / cracking or literally exploding. Were shards stuck in the wall or ceiling? How big was the "blast radius" ? Does your mom's friend have any indoor animals that might have knocked it off a table or counter?

I never doubted them. The only thing that I got burned on was Sugar Plum. Everything other beer Ive had from them has been really, really good. Me and bluecane came to the conclusion that CCB has mouthfeel nailed down perfectly. They can make a beer from a bottle feel like its on nitro when its not. Good Gourd, Zhukov, IPAs (aged on whatever or not), Warmer Winter, etc have the best mouthfeel ever. I think thats what separates CCB from every other brewery in the states.

Funky Buddha has killed mouthfeel too, although I've only had a handful of their brews (at the lounge) and none of their big boy stouts/porters.

Stephen (Heatwave33) and bluecane had their shattered growlers replaced by CCB.

So... Are you seriously expecting CCB to take the rug into account? Also, let me know when you see the first published report of injury occurring from an exploding beer growler at CCB or for pretty much any brewery for that matter. Thanks though for watching out for your fellow beer drinkers safety. We're in debt to your foresight.

Visited CCB last Thursday. Great place. My kids (14 & 15yo) actually went on the tour with us and were amused but hopefully it was somewhat educational. Had the Zhukov which was excellent, but also had the Snack Time which stole the show for me. Like a Snickers bar in a glass. Delicious!!!!
Had dinner at Peg's that night also. Food and atmosphere were excellent and Sarah gave us hugs on way in and out. May have caught them on an off night though tap wise as we were not blown away by the few of their beers we tried. And abv's are not always listed on alot of their offerings, which I like to know when drinking a few. Would definately reccommend hitting both CCB and Peg's though if you are in the area.

This is exactly why you're not supposed to bottle homebrew in growlers, or anything that is still actively fermenting. Growlers are not designed to hold the PSI of something that is fermenting or carbonating, and they will usually fail at the weakest point, which is the bottom. They shouldn't be selling beer that's not "done". Period.

It doesn't matter if it's a Cigar City branded growler, or an apple cider jug that someone is re-purposing.

That's why you see Belgium styles in thicker bottles.

Does anyone else think the most upsetting part of the story is that 32oz of Zhukov was wasted?

The most upsetting part would be AB Zhukov's getting wasted...

I had a growler of AB Hunahpu break sitting overnight in the laundry room. It was a bitch to clean up, and there was no carpeting involved. But, as previously described, just the bottom of the growler was detached, like it had been sliced with a laser. Not anything exploding.
And CCB replaced it with no problem...
