I was up in Vermont for the Brewers Fest and I noticed that a bunch of bars had Cigar City beers on tap. Is this an indication that they might be distributing up to VT now or were they just there for the festival crowd or some other special occasion?

Shaun Hill distributes them through 12% I think, and you can buy some bottles from him at the brewery, or get them on tap occasionally, but none in the stores.

They haven't released any bottles of Cigar City in this area (SKI distributors) in over half a year and the kegs are few and far between as is. I cannot fathom how old these bottles could be?

I dont have alot more info but 12% does carry the occasional Grassroots Beer and Hill Farmstead was at the Festival put on by 12% and Shelton.

i always thought shaun had his own importing/distribution company. i wouldn't think 12% has anything to do with shaun distributing cigar city.

Don't know about 12% but I'm pretty certain Shaun is the sole VT distributor for Shelton Bros. Only place I've seen Cigar City in VT is Three Penny Taproom in Montpelier, and it doesn't stick around for long.

When Cigar City returns to the City, it'll be in can form.

I'm okay with this. I'm one of those people that far and away prefer cans

I get a lot of customers who refuse to buy bottles. Why the preference given to cans?

I get the opposite, Tons of customers opposed to cans. I prefer cans due to weight/freshness/no chance of skunkin. I don't prefer EVERY style in a can but for the beers I want to drink without ever aging them I prefer the cans. I won't be one of the people that age a can beer, I just can't believe it'd work well and I'm sure I'm wrong in this belief but that's how it is.

Makes total sense to me. Though now I need to ask all the Bud drinkers why they won't buy bottles either... I'm sure much of it is because of the whole "no glass bottles on the beach" thing around here but even during the winter a lot of our macro drinkers get cans. Heh, you'd think by now I would have given up trying to figure out what goes on in their brains.

You're a better man for even trying to figure out the thought process, I recently had a discussion with a customer why they hated their Heineken in a can (It's skunked, It tastes horrid!) and loved it in the bottle. It's a very odd situation, This retail thing in a store that doesn't focus specifically on craft.

Yea this isn't true at all, Grassroots distro is tiny and Shelton brothers is all over VT.

Beg to differ. g. housen got the boot by Shelton Bros. over a year ago, and Shaun has been filling the gaps for them since. I've seen what he brings down to Winooski Bevvy, which is same as what he has on the shelves at the shop (although some of which never even makes it out of there) and although stock comes & goes in small quantities, it is his baby for now. Jester King just showed up in VT - bet I know who is handling that. As for 12%, not really sure if they are working in tandem or not, but they handle Stillwater, and Shaun brings that to Winooski, so there must be some interaction there.

He distributes, but shelton bros have like 50 breweries on shelves in VT and there is no way he does it all.
