PDR 1878 Capa Oscura with Victory at Sea. Ace pairing.

This stick seems to be flying a bit under the radar and can be found right now for around 5 bucks a pop. Massive smoke output allowing for a creamy mouthfeel. Smooth, slow burn, great construction with a nice white, strong ash. Medium-full for my tastes, great to go with any big stout.

I tried a cigar once and almost puked. Same with chew. Stuff is poison.

Couldn't agree more. I love a good single-malt with a cigar, but it's just an absolute waste of a good beer IMO. I will drink something malty and smooth though, like a brown ale, but never anything other than shelf beer.

Good Lord! How have I never seen this thread before! I recently discovered this cigar bar in the North End in Boston and LOVE going there. I've never been very interested in cigars, but as of late there's almost nothing better than getting a stogie and a Blanton's neat at this place -- unfortunately they don't have a very good beer selection. I don't know much about cigars but I'm going to be keeping a close eye on this thread in hopes of learning a thing or two!

I found that cigars go nicely with triples and lambic.

I'll go heavy, heavy, and say a snifter of old Rasputin and a Romeo and Juliette Mauro is my choice

For me I prefer a nice hoppy barleywine, with a fire going in my fire pit.

Had a cigar last night with a bottle of Bruery Blue BBLS. Really good with a fruity sour stout.

Does drinking anything from cigar city count as both? Same way ballast point is fishing and drinking?

You're not supposed to inhale the smoke (maybe a few times); and you're definitely not supposed to swallow the dip drool, either. Either way, you'll end up getting so high you will puke.

Two weeks ago, when my twin brother was in town, he and another BA and I had some Havanas-paired first with a new W00tstout, and then we had Banging Gavel Chicanery, a Russian Imperial Stout. I generally prefer a stout with a cigar, unless I can get my hands on a good port.

I'm partial to Upmann's and Partagas and have been nursing a box of each for a couple of years. I usually smoke them with Barleywines and anything that has been in a bourbon or rum barrel. Next time I get a chance I will try ninkasibrews suggestion of trying one of these with a tripel or a lambic. Other sours and wild ales might work too. So much to do, so little time....

I've heard the etiquette is to pair the opposite. A mild creamy Connecticut with a strong stout, and something like a full bodied triple ligero with a crisp pilsner. I don't necessarily buy that, take it with as many grains of salt as you want.

I had a founders IMP Stout and cigar last night with some friends at the bottle shop last night. I had never smoked a cigar before and I did enjoy it. Might make it a monthly treat.

I enjoy cigars but never paired one with beer im afraid it will interfere with beer taste.

You're right to think that. The W00tstout tasted totally different when i had a bottle this week without smoking a cigar.
