As someone who has been drinking craft beers and smoking cigars for about the same amount of time which is 25 years. BA's, stouts and Porters go great with cigars but good scotch, cognac or bourbon go better.

Not the same thing, but the only time I smoke cigarettes is when I drink

I've never smoked anything but when I smoked a cigar for the first time, I enjoyed it, sort of. When I tried a cigar with a good rich stout, I appreciated the connection.

Occasionally enjoy a nice cigar with a BA stout. There's a brewery local to Seattle - Geaux Brewing - that tends to invite a nearby cigar company to make hand-rolled cigars during their events. If I recall correctly, they originally had plans for a members/founders cigar lounge as well. While not the best brewery in the area, they do a lot of very good/great beer with few if any misses. They also have one of the coolest taprooms around.

Oh yeah, love it. My cousin is big into cigars and I'm big into beer so we pair 'em up nicely.

I think nothing goes better with a beer than smooth delicious smoke going down your throat, especially a good cigar. I have battled smoking for many years and I think I finally got it kicked (3 months without a cig). I've been vaping recently, as my substitute, which I will admit is douchy, but hopefully it is healthier. Still the craving for the real stuff hits me hard when I start drinking.

This was my favorite and I was just offered one yesterday and turned it down. Baby steps

This post has inspired me to do it up this afternoon too. Thanks for the motivation.

I agree that palate fatigue sets in with cigars pretty quickly and cigar smoke can overpower the nuances of a beer. That's why I never drink the best beer in the cellar while smoking a cigar -- it's a great way to waste your whales. Instead why not find a reasonably accessible stout or barleywine to pair it with? Afterwards you'll probably thank yourself for going with FBS or Double Bastard rather than pulling a great bottle from your cellar.

I don't smoke cigars that often. If I'm going to pair anything with a cigar, it's going to be some sort of whiskey.
Tried pairing beer with cigars a few times and found I'd rather just drink the beer by itself.
Although, I can understand why people would enjoy it.

Absolutely...therefore I enjoy them with strong dark beers and not light delicate ones....prolly something I've had before and not a first time beer I'd want to focus on....

If I'm at the dive bar it's Miller High Life with my stick... true story. If I'm home it's whatever I have on hand... usually Southern Tier IPA, but I have been known to occasionally pair my smoke with a Schlitz High Gravity Malt Liquor... another true story. I have no shame...:grinning:

Backstory... I often meet my dad at the dive bar on Saturday morning... yes, morning... it is what it is... and I enjoy the shit out of the Miller High Life, the stick, and the company...!

Agreed... there's a local beer fest I no longer go to because of the people with cigars. I am allergic to tobacco and it makes me cough and wheeze. Apologies to those who like them, but to me, they smell like a burning turd. Just sayin'. And with that smell overwhelming the beer I'm sampling it is not a pleasant thing. Would it be OK if I carried around a two day old fish and a few tubs of egg salad at these events? At least those don't have the health risks.

They diminish the ability of those around you to smell their beer.
