Agreed. I think spirits cut through a bit better. Mezcal/Tequila is also great, particularly with a lighter cigar like a stick with a Connecticut wrapper.

My sentiments exactly. I have yet to find a beer that can hold up to a cigar. I have found that spirits can cut through the intensity of the cigar/smoke, but basically any beer I've tried, including very strong ABV's and overall flavors, have been washed out completely in my opinion.

The higher alcohol content beers with huge flavor profiles tend to do better with cigars, imho.

a blunt of medical with a dIPA is a thing to behold. although a blunt with natty or summer pils is also great. hell, a blunt with almost any beer is amazing. i don't like tobacco, that stuff is just not good for you. sorry, buddha has tried and true benefits for you.

    Hello, Beer Advocates!

Beer and Cigar pairings are an intersection of topics that I have been musing over for the past few weeks. After feeling inspired by the recent article "The Tank Brewing Company: Stouts and Stogies in Miami" I thought it time to throw up a post in the forums. I am interested in hearing of any recent pairings that went down especially well, and/or thoughts on combining these finely wrapped delights!

    Cheers!

Undercrowns and Heady Topper are a great combo. We took a large sampler of Drew Estate on our annual Vermont camping trip, and while T52's and 9's also were great with IPA's, I still remember that combo as one I loved.

More general and useful comment, though, is Camacho Triple Maduros are great paired with big stouts, especially barrel aged.

i think preferable pairings depend highly upon the individual and also swisher mango kicks ass

i mean to say, at the point youre talking different forms of consumption and how they mix, i mean, stuff is so subjective at that point

imma start a cannabis/beer pairing thread and then one for which beers are best for boilermakers

but to be fair and actually answer the question, i bet cuban rejects would go good with hoppy things, as cuban rejects and similar cigars have a hay like but obviously dominican taste that may serve as a bit of a malt flavor catalyst as to compliment something floral, but mostly i have cigars totally separate from nice beer because i dont want influence on flavor

I will have a look out for some Undercrowns, or something similar, at my local cigar shop. If I could ever get my hands on something from Alchemist Beers I would be a happy man, alas I live too far away to make the journey worthwhile. But I'll put some thought into finding a local DIPA

    Appreciate the response!

I'm more of Pipe guy than a Cigar guy, but I don't typically enjoy beer with either. The only good pairings I've had were all big Imperial Stouts!

For me it's usually coffee, water, or whisk(e)y!

I too enjoy the occasional pipe! It seems the darker and more bold flavors usually found in stouts are what people are leaning towards.

    Cheers!

For the record, I'm not encouraging anyone to break the law, but you should try it. :smirk:

I think also this will ruin your pallet, but with some stouts, it;s pretty matching, but mostly not imo.

My brother just got back from Cuba. My lord, a cigar and a SOS on the front deck on a crisp Vermont evening watching the sun go down over the Adirondacks. Bliss.

I love cigars and beer, always thought the flavors worked in harmony with dark beers. Just like Whiskey, a good one with a cigar is very nice. It does change lighter beers but still not bad least to me anyway.

I agree. If I'm smoking a cigar, I tend to stick with cheaper beer. If I'm drinking a big rare stout, I don't want my pallet getting confused with the cigar. Guinness goes great with cigars.
