Hey all (first post, be gentle). I'm from St. Louis but my company is considering a possible venture into Cincinnati Ohio, basically I'm trying to figure out what the Cincy craft beer scene looks like as I won't be able to make it there any time soon to run around and do some sampling.

Search the Great Lakes forum and you will find some similar threads, plenty of good suggestions to be had.

Cincinnati has a nice, up and coming beer scene. I suspect it is only going to improve given time. I have not spent a lot of time in the city but I do have favorable opinions regarding a few of the breweries.

I love the guys at Listermann's, they make some solid beer too. They tend to host a few events a year that bring the brewing community together, they are one to watch for that reason alone. Fifty West and Mad Tree are also pumping out some nice beers. Party Source, across the river in Kentucky, is damn fine bottle shop.

It's a great time to be a craft beer lover here in Cincinnati. Some great local breweries, and craft beer is making its way in to more and more restaurants all the time. Some fantastic bottle shops too.

    some of my favorites:

breweries: MadTree, Fifty West, Listermann's, Rhinegeist, Rivertown

restaurants: Moerlein Lager House, YardHouse, Incline Public House, **** & Bull public house, Flipdaddy's Burgers and Beers, BrewRiver Gastropub

bottle shops: The Party Source...(they even have an onsite microbrewery called Ei8htBall brewing), Jungle Jim's, Hyde Park Wine & Spirits, Jeff's Marathon...(a gas station with an ENORMOUS craft beer inventory)

Guy above me pretty much nailed it, but I'll add a little. MadTree for hops, Rivertown for sours. The Lackman is a fantastic beer and cocktail bar downtown (no food aside from pretzel mix). MLH has a great beer list and the candied pork belly is worth the trip.

I'll be visiting the Cincy area next week. I'm a big fan of IPAs (citrusy), and wondered if Rhinegeist (Truth) or any of the other breweries in the area are worth the visit? Thanks in advance for any recommendations or guidance.

Rhinegeist is in a really cool space, but MadTree is where you want to go. Psychopathy is top-notch and their new DIPA, Galaxy High, is pretty great too.

Thanks tripsforjoe. Do you know if they can (or offer Growler fills) of Galaxy High? -- it sounds great.

You can get growler fills of Galaxy High now. The first couple batches were small and available on tap in the taproom only. People loved it so much that the last several batches have been bigger. You can find it on tap at several bars around town now as well. Hit me up a day or 2 before your trip and I can give you a better idea of who has what and where.

If you visit Party Source to buy some beers, they have a brewery and bar there now, too. Ei8htball Brewing is the name of the place and the bar has a ton of taps, both their own and other breweries. Definitely worth checking out.
