hey there, I saw a thread similar to this but I was wondering if anyone knew what good stuff is available in cincy that I can't get here in Illinois/Chicago? I already know I'd like to try white rajah, head hunter and columbus ipa (distro availibility?), but I would also like to see if there are any stouts (milk, oatmeal, ris), hoppy pale ales, porters or other ipa/dipas that i should try. I have a sister coming back from there in a few weeks and I'd like her to bring me some stuff. Cheers.
Listermann usually has some interesting stouts / porters; people seem to enjoy Nutcase Porter from them, but I think it's brewery only. MadTree PsycHOPathy is worth trying. Party Source right across the Ohio River in Newport, KY carries Crooked Stave; all are great, Hop Savant is worth buying. Rivertown does great sours (are you into sours?); all available at Party Source in KY. Thirsty Dog Siberian Night is a fantastic stout. Weyerbacher Double Simcoe (DIPA), Old Heathen (RIS) and Heresy (BA RIS) are all great. Definitely pick up Fat Head's Headhunter; if you like pumpkin, try their Spooky Tooth as well.
DEP's Fine Wine (in Ft. Thomas - 5 minutes south of Party Source) has 24 beers/ciders on their grwler station. http://depsfinewine.com/beer/ They had Great Lakes Class of 88′ Imperial Smoked Porter recently.
I haven't actually tried any sours as of yet. I'm also really into barleywines. I've heard good things about wayerbacher though and I'd like to try some of their stuff. I can't be too demanding of my sister as far as her driving around to pick things up, I'm probably gonna stick to things she can get in cincy. Yea; if she is going to be near Dutch's in Oakley, their selection is huge and the staff is very knowledgeable. I dunno about the other Cinci folk, but I'd be happy to hand off a box to your sister with some cool stuff to send your way. Maybe she wouldn't have to run around so much.
I know she lives right near the reds stadium and works at the nordstrom in a suburb just outside the city, not sure exactly but that's the best approximation I can give at the moment.
That may be worth arranging, I think she'd be more willing to grab a box of stuff already set up and just do it without hunting. I'll definitely ask her about it. Thanks for the offer, you might make this much easier than I thought it would be
I am fairly confident I saw Insanity when I was in Cincinnati a few weeks ago - it's still kicking around Columbus so I'm sure there's some in Cincy still.
How does this sound... I will put together a box. 24 singles, all outside your distro and all excellent that I will drop off with your sister. If anyone else in the area wants to add some bottles to the kitty, we'll put it all together and we'll send you a nice Cincinnati care package. What do you think?
Me too, I've learned from ba that beer lovers are some of the best people around. It's refreshing to see since on a day to day basis we all meet and encounter assholes on a regular basis.
Update: C_Roetting and voodoofish65usf hooked me up with a pretty awesome box of goodies all outside of my distro and even a heady and a jai alai, and also were cool enough to meet up with my sister to get me the box. These guys are top notch ba's! Cheers!
