Hey guys. Recently I've been given the opportunity to start brewing pilot batches on the tippy system at the brewery I work at. Needless to say, I'm really stoked. First batch will be a NE IPA using 1318. I plan on going Colombus-Citra-Amarillo with the Citra and Amarillo combo pulling the weight in the flavor/aroma/whirlpool/dry hop. Just looking for some advice from ya'll who have utilized this combo and what ratios you have been most successful/happiest with the results! Oh, and also, I have access to simcoe, chinook, and mandarina Bavaria.

My best Citra/Amarillo beer was 1:1. YMMV.

p.s. What's a tippy system? Does it tip over or something?

@VikeMan Its a 28 gallon tiered electronic brewing system. Pump, temp controlled propane burners, 3 tiers, etc. Honestly not sure where the term 'tippy' originated from but that's the slang I've always been accustomed to calling similar systems. . .

Also, 1:1 was actually very close to what I had in mind, just wasn't sure if the Citra would overpower the Amarillo due to higher oil contents. Nice to hear that it works great at that ratio

@hopfenunmaltz now that I think about it, the mash tun is on a releasable hinged bracket. Now it all makes sense! Haha

@VikeMan Just an update, I went with very close to 1:1 (a touch more Amarillo) in boil additions and hop stand and after primary fermentation has completed the beer is throwing off massive apricot and clementine notes in the nose. Appreciate the advice man!

To me, Citra and Amarillo are very similar, so I tend to blend either with a piney hop like Simcoe or Chinook

I certainly see a lot of similarities. From my personal methods, Citra has thrown more of a tropical grapefruit, orange and pineapple, whereas Amarillo has thrown a orange tangerine apricot notes. Albeit I've never done either in singularly hopped beers. I should note I've never received Citra hops below 14% AA and all the amarillor I've used has been from previous years crops prior to this last brew

I use 70/30 citra to amarillo and have loved it so far.
