I love using the city beer guides when traveling. I have noticed that some are just the city, for example Chicago, and do not include any suburbs, while other city guides include suburbs, like Atlanta and Baltimore.
I would love to have a suburbs section to city guides personally, but wanted to know what others thought. For example when people visit here in Chicagoland, many of the breweries I suggest are not in Chicago proper, but would get missed if people were not familiar with the area and only looked at the guide. Thanks for your thoughts!

Have you tried the Nearby feature? That could be a temporary solution at least.

I'm not really sure. To be honest, I like when the city guides focus on the city. If I visit a metropolis, I may not have access to a car, and will be seeking walkable or easy-public transit options. Likewise, even if I did have a car, I'd be frustrated if several of my top options came up as 30+ minutes away from me, even if I'm staying in the heart of the downtown area.

I'm up for debate on it. I don't travel an extensive amount, so perhaps others have more input. I will say, three of the better brewery's in the Kansas City area are both in the suburbs (Crane, Axiom, and Apex Aleworks). Each would require a personal car with an Uber costing $30+ from downtown.

Heading to KC for a wedding and staying on the Kansas side of the river next weekend. Anything worth checking out over that way? FYI we will have a car (wife is pregnant so full time DD!), so small drive is no problem.

Give me some time to pour a beer and type up a response. I'll PM you.

I personally prefer places in the city proper which are easily accessible. When I am in a strange city, I like to visit places within a few miles of where I am staying, but it doesn't matter that much to me one way or the other if you want to include the suburbs.

Makes sense. I could see how suburb breweries in the guide would be clutter if you are staying only in the city. What if they had separate guides?

I'd love to see each major city in the city guide list include all breweries in the group. The Places/Nearby feature is great, but it is not up to date, thus missing newer breweries/places that are in the database.

When traveling I typically stay in aasuburban hotel, although I also visit breweries in the city. When I'm planning a trip I have to find places by entering each suburban city name by using a map, and often no brewery exists in that suburb thus extra work.

If each major city guide included all places in the SMSA that would be extremely helpful.

I'm not really concerned that all area stores be listed, just the best ones.

I'd support a separate suburb guide for a city. Maybe a city proper and metro area guide? The metro area guide would better serve those with access to transportation and/or more time, and the city proper would focus on the actual city.

Honestly, it's gotten to the point where I google "brewery" and focus the map on a tight radius around my hotel, limiting the search to walkable or public transit areas. I then expand out from there if there aren't options. I then crosscheck those breweries with the BA system. It's a bit of a run-around, but it's easier (for me) than searching separate suburb cities in the BA database.

For as much as the beer database struggles to stay current with new beer releases, it seems like places drags just a little further behind. Just not enough user database incentive or motivation to list and review new places. And as I say that, I have about 4 place reviews that I still haven't typed up.
