I wanted to share a great experience we had at DC's new City Tap House. Open for just about three weeks now, they were certainly hitting on all cylinders last night. Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about beer selections (about 45/50 on draft and a select bottle list) and the food was varied and of pretty high quality. It's in the middle of the city and so not cheap, but you can put together a cheaper meal if you need/want to between their snacks and appetizers. The physical layout is very woodsy and inviting. It's more of a beer-focused restaurant than a bar; we'd liked it a lot and will return.
I forgot to mention that they did have some nice local representation with Three Stars, DC Brau and Atlas Brewing. The food could have used a little more kick (blue crab mac n' cheese had lots of crab but that was a bit lost in a very rich cheese sauce and the Korean short rib tacos were very tasty but didn't have the spice I was expecting). On the other hand, the 10 spice wings DID have that kick and were excellent.
Good material for a place review. That way your comments won't just disappear into that great pool of old threads nobody ever sees. :-)
Not to plug another site, but City Tap Haouse is getting great reveiws on Yelp (yes, it is not beercentric, but still of assistance.)
How expensive was it, like how much were beers on average. Cause I checked their bottle list and a lot were super overpriced
Drafts ran mostly $5/6 with the higher ABV creeping closer to $8. Less expensive than, say, Meridian Pint. Think the bottle list was more "curated" and so they might have marked them up more for people splurging.
