Sounds awesome - $20 isn't bad at all for a 750ml bottle. Hoping my Westchester friend will get me the hook-up.

Does anyone know if this was aged in the same barrels as the version they brought to EBF last spring? I seem to recall that version being listed in the 15-17% ABV range vs. this having 12% ABV, and thought it was aged in something other than rum barrels, but my memory is fuzzy.

Yep, I'm heading up to Putnam Country from Brooklyn at 1:30-2ish. If they were gonna be open around then, I'd definitely swing by and grab some. Oh well.

I don't think that what they were pouring at EBF was the barrel-aged version, but rather just the straight cut. Very likely that the rum barrel aged is the same liquid, though.

Apparently, a fresh un-oaked batch is in the fermenter right now and expected to be released next month (in a 4pk).

EDIT: Meanwhile, the only review posted on BA says almost nothing about the beer....reminds them of 120 Minute (?!?!)

I don't want to be a Debbie Downer but this beer is make or break for me from Captain Lawrence. I don't mind their prices. I think they are high but still reasonable for what they are. However, the quality of their product has been steadily slipping ever since they moved into their new facility. I'm really pulling for this beer to be as good as it sounds.

Yeah, that Barrel Select Gold was absolutely undrinkable.

    newest batch of Rosso?
    Rum Smoke from the Oak?
Apple Brandy Smoke from the Oak?
    Mother Barrel Select?
    Barrel Select Black?
    Hops and Roses?

Its all a matter of opinion of course... you're right, CL Barrel Select Gold was good... but when you're charging $15 for a 375ml and $20 for a 750ml, IMO, you don't get to go 1 for 6 on the beers you bottle.

For the people that cant make it Wed I wouldnt worry since none of their recent releases sold out in a day. Rosso even made it to some limited distribution. Im thinking about taking the drive up on Saturday but not sure after dropping $$$ getting my dog's flea issue tsken care of. Mans best friend my ass, dont make me choose between you and new beers ever again dog!!!

You forgot Barrel Select Sour Cherry. Unquestionably one of the best of the series.

Also, the quality of the SftO series has improved tremendously. Far better than the batches that were prone to gushing and required a warning label. The imperial recipe now seems much more dialed-in and appropriate for the type of treatments that they're doing.

Additionally, the most recent batch of Rosso was a huge improvement over the throat-stripping mess that it was turning into over at Castleton Street. The reviews speak for themselves, really.

Not sure what to say about the Mother Barrel situation, but they basically had a "bad" batch of Nor Easter and tried to make lemonade out of lemons, as it were. If this now means that there's a new mother base sitting in that foudre, then I would say that's a good thing.

Oh....and Golden Delicious. Really don't need to say anything more about that one.

So now, if you're unimpressed by the Frost Monster will you promise not to buy any Cuvee de Whatever when it's finally released? Pinky swear?

It would be Cuvee de Saw Mill. Going up that way next Saturday anyway so I'll just roll the dice and hope it's still available.

For those that have tried it, what were your impressions? There are only four ratings and they are all hads. Also, did this sell out or are bottles still available

Sold out at the release. No idea on bottle count but I would guess somewhere in the 300-400 range. I really enjoyed it and I'm not even a huge fan of rum barrels, but I'm also a bit of a homer.
