Clean up - aggressive fermentation

    I'm new to home brewing and I'm only doing 1 gallon batches. I just cooked my second batch yesterday and put it in the fermenter with an airlock. The fermentation started pretty quickly and was very active. Luckily, I put the glass fermenter in a large pot just in case and I'm glad I did. It did bubble over/up and out the airlock. It seems to have settled down now. Is it safe for me to remove the glass fermenter from the pot and clean the pot and the outside of the glass fermenter? I would then put it back in the safe/dark place to sit out the rest of the time. Thanks.

    You are out of the danger zone for now, but for your next batch you may want to use a blowoff tube. If the airlock fills with krausen and clogs, the whole system will build up a lot of pressure which could blow the bung off and make a mess on your ceiling.

    For my first batch I did use a blow off tube for 3 days then switched to the airlock. It wasn't a very aggressive fermentation so this time I skipped it. Oops, they are all different.

    Usually higher gravity beers fermented at a higher temperature are more vigorous.
