Not sure if anyone has posted anything similar.

My favourite La Chouffe glass is starting to look it's age (10 years+)

Can anyone offer me some tips about how to clean it?

    Cheers.

Main problem with cleaning beer glassware is the lettering slowly fading washing after washing.

My suggestion is to hand wash it, especially inside the glassware, what actually matter and be super careful drying up the outside of it so not to wipe out the lettering.

My Guinness pint has aged poorly but that’s on me.

I also strictly wash my glasses by hand. I dry with paper towels and take care to not scrub the logos too hard. Also, maybe try to use a bar soap instead of a heavy degreasing dish soap.

Never put your glassware (if it has any embossing, logos, etc.) in the dishwasher. Wash it by hand and it will look new forever.

Also, with a glass you use regularly you can often just rinse it out between uses and wash it with soap and hot water only every few days.

Hand washing is the key. Dishwashing fades the lettering and leads to etching. If your water is hard, it just speeds up the process.

User dcotom has a hack for this. I'm sure he'll pop in at some point.

If we mention @dcotom we will increase the likelihood of this happening

I was unsure of how to do that. Just put an @ before the username?

I hand wash every glass with a painted logo. I treat them all gently.

So here’s a somewhat related question raised by several responses. Is drying really necessary? I hand-wash a lot of stuff (including all my beer glassware) but I never dry anything. Basically evaporation takes care of that (and I do not live in an arid climate by any stretch). Just something I’ve never understood, seems like a waste of time and effort to dry stuff that will dry on its own within 30-60 minutes.

If you have a kitchen sink under a stone countertop which overhangs it, try not to bang the glass on the stone when washing it... :grimacing: I now hold the base of the glass when washing it. Luckily I had a spare for my go-to glass.

I'm the same way. Hand wash everything and set it on the rack to dry. I have hard water so my glasses end up a bit spotty, but you don't see it unless you look real close. It doesn't bother me, personally.

It’s not rocket science. I thin film of water will evaporate pretty quickly with or without our help.

It sounds like you want to rehab your glass to be like new again, but I don't think that's possible. Proper cleaning needs to start at the beginning. If someone has some good rehab procedures, I'd like to hear about them. I have a number of glasses that are a mess and nearing disposal.

Also, anybody here with tips on how to clean at the bottom of your Spiegleau IPA glass??? I find the bottle brush to be a bit too abrasive.

I also hand wash everything with the dry/evap rack method and just pre-rinse if you want to get rid of spotting...

In relation, I do clean my alternative glassware with isopropyl alcohol rub and coarse salt which works wonders

I half-fill it with water hotter than I can handle, drop in some cleaning solution, cover the glass with my hand, and, holding the stem in the other hand, shake the carp out of it. When I can no longer stand the heat (usually pretty quickly!) I tip the water out. Rinse it in similarly hot water. Wait for your hands to stop burning. Job done.

    Cheers!

I hand wash, literally. Pour some hottish water in, add some Dawn, stick my big-ass hand in as much as possible, running fingers over every surface I can reach, then per @AzfromOz I shake the hell out of it, then rinse and dry with the same clean dishtowel everyone has been using all week. Last crucial step is when you have a beer and are taking a picture, turn the side with the dirty-spot surface bubbles to the back.

A sharp rap on the tabletop will usually dislodge those unsightly bubbles, at least for as long as it takes to get the photo. I wouldn't try it with a Simon Pearce or a Spiegelau glass, though.
