Hi does anyone have any tips or solutions to cleaning a hop spider? I have tried a soak in PBW with only marginal results.
    Cheers

The pbw really should have did the trick. What is left on it and what is the spider made of?

I don't use a hop spider, but I pour through a strainer bag into my FVs, which usually catches a good amount of stuff. I'll dump most of it down the drain and get out the big globs. The I'll leave them out on my porch for a few days to dry.

I can't imagine a hop spider needing more than a simple rinsing. Bags, on the other hand, clean up well with Oxiclean...for about a dozen uses...then, some need to be replaced before they fail "open".

Mine's stainless steel. I'll just rinse it after using. Once in a while I'll soak it in Star San to get rid of the beer stone that builds up.

Do you not spray/rinse it immediately after use? That should avoid the need to soak it in anything.

I wonder if your stainless steel is not truly stainless steel. Does the crud seem to be embedded?
