I'm fairly new to sours and love them to death. However, I recently had a Beatification and a 2005 Lou Pepe on separate occasions. Both times, it was probably an hour or two after finishing that the lingering affects of the sour on my tongue finally ceased to alter the taste of subsequent beers. I tried drinking water after Lou Pepe, but that did not seem to help.

    Any suggestions?

I don't know about others, but if I end up eating or drinking too much of sour flavors, if I mix sugar or salt with it, the inside of my mouth is susceptible to canker sores. These can end up being very uncomfortable, and are best combatted with a more mild, or base heavy food or drink.

I've cut sours before with a light dry irish style stout, or just water, with great results. Saltines can end up creating blistered taste buds in your mouth that tend to be painful, especially if you drink more sours before they heal.

I'd also recommend cheeses, table water crackers, or other low in acid and sodium foods and drink.

Sourness indicates acidity. So if that's what's going on here, maybe eat or drink something alkaline to neutralize the acid? You could chew up a Tums or a Rolaids or stir up a little baking soda in a glass of water instead if you want to avoid the flavorings in the antacids. It would at least be an interesting experiment.

Or substitute the baking soda for Mentos and the water for Diet Coke.

That'll take your mind off the sour taste in your mouth! :grinning:

Just speaking from personal experience, though many don't have this unfortunate side effect.

Drink a sour beer first every time before having other beers. Don't you find having that taste on your tongue makes all other beers taste fantastic?

tons of water and time. Thats what I do. I dont drink sours consecutively, honestly. I learned the hard way when I tried to drink an entire Jolly Pumpkin La Roja by myself in one sitting. I couldnt touch anything even close to sour for a good two weeks.
