I will be in Cleveland tomorrow as a part of a work trip and have the day to spend checking out the local beer scene. Any must see/highly recommended breweries, pubs or restaurant to grab some local brew?

    Any and all recs appreciated!

What part/area/side of Cleveland? As you probably won't have a lot of time to hit a bunch of places.

People here can't stop talking about Masthead. But that definitely doesn't mean they are any good. Still though, I'd stop there to see what all the fuss is about.

Flying in to the airport tomorrow morning so basically could travel to any part of the city . I’m going to be heading near Collision brewery tomorrow night. Ideally, I would stay somewhere in the city around there but obviously not familiar with the location and willing to check out what the area has to offer Thanks.

Noble Beast and Masthead are both downtown...about a mile from Collision Bend. I recommend checking them both out.

I would say Masthead, Nobel Beast (they are very close to each other) and Fat Heads. Fat Heads has a location right near the airport (production facility, opens at 4pm) and the other one is more out of the way. Since you are flying into and out of CLE I assume.

I wouldn't select Collision Bend as a representative of the city--never been and never heard of anyone who has, it's pretty new and there's not a lot of word out on them either way.

Great Lakes will be your classic go-to, it's always packed and there are very few American craft breweries older than it. Plus, the whole area of Ohio City is packed with breweries and bars, while it's not necessarily what's trendy in Cleveland now, it's certainly a hot spot.

I'm with @invertalon on the Fat Head's stop...probably the highest quality selection of fresh brews on draft you will find in your radius.

I would recommend the Fat Head’s location in North Olmsted(10 mins from airport) for a one time visitor; they generally have a more diverse beer list and also a full food menu.

Masthead and Noble beast are good choices, and check out Willoughby Brewing if you feel like driving 15 minutes east of Downtown.

We have a differing opinion on Platform in this forum, but I like them and they are in a pretty convenient location.

Masthead (great pizza and beer). Noble Beast. Market Garden. Saucy Brew (great pizza too). Collision Bend. Fat Heads. Any of these will treat you very well.

Might be too late for this unless you're pulling up the thread on your smart phone, but...

If you're going to be near the airport, Brewkettle is certainly worth a quick trip. They have several worthy beers of their own (White Rajah, Black Rajah, El Lupulo Libre) and if you don't see any house beers you want to try, they have an extensive guest tap list.

Plus, their food isn't bad. Not great, but certainly palatable. I always have the dry rubbed wings.

Oh yeah, don't know why it always slips my mind, but Brew Kettle is always worthwhile!

So to sum up this thread...go to every brewery in the greater Cleveland area. Glad we could help!

Not even close; we left out Brick and barrel, Goldhorn, Forest City, Terrestrial, Working Class, Sibling... I could go on for a while. Some may not be open in a year, but they are there now.

You should also check out Jackie O's if you have the time, it's only a 6 hour round-trip from Cleveland.

Hmmmmm...why do I have the urge to ask “if you could pick 3 new breweries that have opened in the last few years that may be closed in the next few years, who would they be?” Dammit...it slipped out. :grimacing:

Actually the newest one downtown is Thirsty Dog’s new restaurant. Lots of handles from Akron’s fine brewery. Not far from Collision Bend. Will be a primo spot in the summer.
