I live in Parma, and go to Mack's fairly frequently. They definitely have a solid selection.

I usually split my business tween Save On, RW&B and World of Wines... They all have pros and cons. Wally can get flaky from time to time too.

Both Fat Head's locations and Brew Kettle are a good 20 minutes from Independence. You can get downtown in about 15 minutes which will get you to Great Lakes, Market Garden, and Platform. Platform would be a must of those 3. Mack's Beverage in Parma and Lizardville Bedford are probably your best shot for selection and singles. Save On (by far the best for single bottle purchase), RWB, and World Wines are all way out of your way from Independence. I don't have a lot of knowledge about bottle shops in the city but it's been my experience that there aren't many great craft stores right inside the heart of Cleveland. If you're strictly looking for 6 packs of widely available local brews (Fat Head's, Brew Kettle, Platform, Jackie O's, etc.) you might do just as well to hit up a nearby grocer (Giant Eagle, Heinen's) and save yourself some travel.

Made it back. Thanks for the suggestions! Since the hotel was right by Winking Lizard we walked over there both nights. I'd rate it an "okay" as the tap list didn't have anything really memorable that I couldn't get here. Wings were good.

Went to Mack's twice. Once first thing when getting there for a six to take to my Mom's; second time to really look around and picked up quite a nice selection. Overall a good place.

Managed to trot the family around to: Market Garden for brunch on Sunday. It was okay; food could use some work. Fat Heads was a must for us again and did not disappoint. Whole family loved it. Also went to Brew Kettle and that was a great choice.

Thanks again BAs. We'll be back in August and we'll be near Massillon, Downtown and by Mansfield. Suggestions there help too.

Mansfield has a brewpub downtown, The Phoenix. In my opinion, their beers are just average, but they're fresh & local, FWTW.

Laxton Hollow Brewing in Lexington (south end of Mansfield) is supposed to open in May. They plan to make it a cask ale nano brewery, which sounds promising.

1803 Taproom in Bucyrus, about 10 minutes west of Mansfield, is a great little beer bar. The owner's focus is to serve only Ohio beers that can't be easily found elsewhere, so---no Great Lakes, no Fatheads, etc---but some great smaller breweries. They had Devil's Kettle from Athens just a month or so after it (Devil's Kettle) opened.

And, of course, on your drive from Massillon to Mansfield, you'll probably pass by Wooster, which means JAFB is a must stop since you'll be that close. It consistently makes the "best under the radar" lists. However, be sure to synchronize your drive with JAFB's hours.

Note: I had my small towns mixed up. 1803 (usually listed as Eighteen O Three, might be some kind of name ownership issue) is in Galion, not Bucyrus if you're going to use your GPS. Still only a 10 minute drive from Mansfield however.
