Falling Sky has announced that it is not renewing its lease for the location on Blair Street. The press release says the brewery is going to focus on package sales and distribution. The release doesn’t say when the last day is, but it implies there are a couple of months left.

Any word on what lead to this? The place was always super popular when I lived in Eugene.

@John_M it is still popular-ish. I know they switched ownership. The EMU pizza spot didn't workout. Blair area is expensive. They still have the original spot in DT. Im assuming this will also allow Scott to put more beer into offsite sales (cans and kegs sold to bars).

Don’t know about this situation specifically, but have heard multiple stories of landlords demanding 30+% rent increases for breweries. Don’t know who they think will be tenants if the breweries leave. Maybe selling for residential development in some cases?

It was very popular and good for quite a while. Several years ago they did away with most of the cured and smoked meats and fermented stuff that made them special for a pretty standard menu that was on the spendy side for what it was. I always thought the beer was just ok as well. With the rising costs of rent it's not terribly surprising. I haven't been in years and the last time was very underwhelming, still sad to see another place close.

When I first moved to Eugene in 4/13, everyone told me I need to check out FS. Yet my experience was identical to yours. The food was interesting and good (at the DT location), but the beer was nothing special. It wasn't bad, but wasn't anything to go out of your way for. Subsequent visits were consistent with the first, though their venues were always pretty crowded. So I felt they were clearly doing something right (even if it wasn't my cup of tea).

So Im surprised by the closure of the Pour House

@John_M @Fixer234 same here. Most of the beers are solid, not outstanding, but a lot better than some of the stuff that passes for good beer over here. I've always taken issue with their food. A slider sized burger with burned fries for $13 (in 2013) was absurd. Same meal is more expensive now, but the fries have gotten a lot better.
