Nothing in Gaitherburg really except a Dogfish Head brew pub. Food is great though. Beer enjoyment depends on your opinion of DFH. I recommend nachos and a draft 75 minute IPA (half 60 min and half 90 min). Montgomery County, MD is not a craft beer friendly area for many reasons. I would not recommend buying bottles (except DFH). Prices are generally regarded as obscene compared to nearby DC or Northern VA and the selection is awful.
DFH Alehouse definitely best option in Gaithersburg for eats/beers. And as nightfly already stated, do not bother looking around Montgomery County for beers. Drive to VA, DC or even make the trip North up 270 to Frederick for beers, Ye Old Spirit Shop isn't too bad as an option.
I would echo the other comments. There is a Buffalo Wild Wings that recently opened and they have some craft beers on tap...can usually find a Union beer that is a solid local choice. Might be worth a stop if get tired of DFH. A lunch trip to Rodmans in DC or Total Wine McLean, VA is also doable if you make sure there is no traffic and do about 80mph
How long are you in town? If you're able to commute, Flying Dog in Frederick (~25-30 minute drive) is releasing 750ml BA Gonzo on Monday
I'm going for work with my boss so I think my drive time will be limited. What about just good restaurants that don't have a good beer selection?
There is a brewpub in Old Town called Growler's, which gets hit/miss reviews - though, I do enjoy their Seneca IPA; that said, and you did not mention dates, it is currently closed due to a burst pipe. If I had to choose a local retail shop, Beers and Cheers in Germantown (See Review) would be the best bet (relatively speaking). I will concur with Dogfish head, but only if you like the beer as they serve nothing else.
I'll be there Feb 10-13. Seems like there are a ton of asian restaurants. Any ones you'd recommend? We have Dog Fish head in colorado but if their food is good might have to hit it up.
New Fortune is ok... used to go there occasionaly for dim sum... there are some really good Asian options in Rockville.
Also if anyone is interested in an IP trade BM me. I have some of the Avery BA series beers if you're interested.
Don't sleep on Growler's. Should be re-open next week from my understanding. Definitely worth a stop in. The food is good, beers are hit or miss, but recently more hits IMHO. Happy hour is a good deal as well.
Cava Mezze might not be too far off for you, it's listed in Rockville but is basically on the boarder of Gaithersburg and Rockville. Small plates Greek food. Don't know if the prices fit what you are looking for, definitely need to order a few small plates per person to be satisfied. http://cavamezze.com/
