I'm in the Buffalo area on business until Friday and I need some suggestions of what beers to look for.

After reading the other Buffalo threads, it sounds like Premier and some Consumers locations are my best bet for finding bottles. But I'm just not sure what to be on the lookout for. And I'm open to other bottle shop suggestions as well.

I was really hoping to find some BCBS, but it sounds like that's come and gone. There are a few already on my radar that we don't get in CO, like Founders, Southern Tier, and AleSmith, but I was curious if you guys had any other suggestions. Any locals I should be looking for?

Thanks for any advice you guys can provide.

Look for sixpoint (resin, 3 bean, diesel), Brooklyn, Keegan's joe mama stout

Except for the fact that Keegans doesn't distro to WNY (thankfully).

Your best stop is going to be Premier Gourmet. If you have time to kill, then check out either location of Village Beer Merchant. Occassionally, you can walk into a location of Consumers and find something unique on the shelf. Local bottles that you might want to watch for are as previously stated Sixpoint, Southern Tier, Great Lakes and you might find some Flower Power laying around too. We just started getting Ballast Point and 50/50 recently too.

If you really want BCBS, I've got a 4 pack that I can give to you. Ill be around Tuesday night if you want it.

I'll look out for those as well. I assume I won't be able to find any LeBleu or Brute right now? And reading the other thread, it doesn't look like Nugget Nectar will make it here before I leave Friday. But Flower Power sounds like a more than an adequate substitute.

I love all the Southern Tier I've tried, especially the Blackwater series. The Oat, Choklat and Creme Brulee were all great. Still haven't tried the Mokah or Jahva.

Thanks again for all the tips.

Not 100% sure about the Buffalo area, but you can find many of the ST Blackwaters series bombers and sixers of Flower Power at any Wegmans in the Rochester area. And yes, no Brute or Lebleu. The last Lebleu was brewery only and there is some question on whether Ithaca will produce either one ever again.

You should be able to find Mokah and Jahva at probably a location of Consumers. Will definitely keep an eye out. Check with the Sheridan/ Niagara Falls Blvd location (closest to Premier)

Premier definitely has old bottles of Cuvee One and maybe Cuvee Three...I really liked one personally.

I think the only beer Consumers can offer you that premier can't is backwoods bastard if I'm not mistaken...haven't been to either in a few weeks :slight_frown:...however Premier's selection http://www.premiergourmet.com/ is through the roof compared to any Consumers. Village beer merchant also has a few bottles that Premier/Consumer's do not carry, specifically Stillwater's Bronze age (not sure of it's availability still).

Keegan does distro to Utica now...we may get infected by their beers in cuse soon enough.

I checked a couple of Consumers for Jahva and Mokah, but no luck. They only had Oat and Choklat. May have to call around tomorrow.

Thanks for the tip about Ballast Point. Didn't realize those were distributed to Buffalo. Victory at Sea and Sculpin are always a good choice, and we don't get them in CO.

I was really surprised to see BCBS listed on tap for the growler fill station at the Amherst Consumers. Was really hoping to find some bottles, but at least it's an option.

Thanks for all the great tips guys.

Any idea which Consumers still has Backwoods? I figured that would have been long gone by now too.

    Off topic...

I havent seen a bottle of Mokah or Jahva in Rochester in a long time, and ive actually been looking recently for a BIF.

You dudes see any flower power that isnt expiring in the next two weeks over there?

Buffalo is packed with Flower power at any Wegmans or consumers. I think i snagged the last BCBS 4 pack at the consumers on abbott. They have Bolt Cutter($22) behind the counter however (I would just suggest the cheaper Bigfoot though). Premier Gourmet i would recommend over any consumers though. Consumer's employees are all very bright and courteous however I would say about 90% of them do not have a intelligent knowledge on anything but local breweries. Great Lakes blackout stout is plentiful i also see Firestone Walkers 16th annivesary at a few consumers. Any other beers you are specifically looking for?

Make sure you check the date on the Flower Power if you buy it. The bottled on date is on the case and the best by is on the bottle. I cant find anything more fresh than bottled in mid November.

The last time I saw 4-packs of BWB was @ the comsuners ~2 miles down the road from premier (Sheridan dr.)
Give them a call, it would be behind the counter

I wasn't looking for much in particular, just some good brews we don't get in CO. I was hoping by some miracle I would come across a Cherry Rye but obviously that's not going to happen. Didn't realize it was released to NY in December. I also was hoping to snag a 4 pack of BCBS if it was around.

There seem to be plenty of great options though. Just trying to narrow down what I can find and what I can haul back. So after some tips and research, here's the massive list I have to narrow down to a reasonable amount to pack:

-Ithaca Flower Power (if I can find it fresh)
-Ballast Point Sculpin, Victory at Sea
-AleSmith everything (namely Speedway Stout, Wee Heavy and Barleywine)
-Founders Imperial Stout, Breakfast Stout, Bolt Cutter, Backwoods Bastard (if I can find it)
-Goose Island Madame Rose (if I can find it) Big John, BCBS (if I can find it), Nightstalker (although it sounds like Nightstalker may be infected)
-Brooklyn Black Ops, Black Chocolate Stout
    -Troegs Flying Mouflan
-Southern Tier Jahva, Mokah (if I can find them)
    -Rodenbach Grand Cru

Anything else I should add to the list before I start to narrow down (as if I needed more options)?

You should be able to find most of those selections at Premier without going anywhere else.

As for Jahva and Mokah, I will look around tomorrow and let you know if I see any.

So far all I see is expiring flower power as well...
I would scour the west side wegmans, could have sworn I have seen jahva at one of them recently. Another hijack: has anyone seen sculpin? All I have seen is big eye, pale ale, and victory at sea.

The Consumers in Amherst off Transit has it and so does the Consumers here in Lockport, so I'm guessing a few others have it as well.
