I'll be on a business trip out to Richmond VA next week and wanted to see what bottle shops I should try to hit up, what should I be looking for that I can't get on Colorado, and where's a good place for a beer and some food. Can't go too far away from the hotel (Embassy Suites Hotel 2925 Emerywood Parkway Richmond, VA 23294) this time as it's really only for business but a guy's got to eat right? : ) Embassy Suites Hotel 2925 Emerywood Parkway Richmond, VA 23294 Cheers!
Mekong for dinner and amazing taps; Whole Foods, Corks and Kegs, and Total Wine are all relatively close for bottles. aside from the obvious big names, keep an eye out for Blue Mountain, Williamsburg Alewerks, Hardywood Park, and Port City from VA.
Mekong looks awesome. Any good seasonals out right now? Specifically any sours, barley wines or bourbon barrel aged beers? Can you still get Hardywood Gingerbread?
Mekong is awesome. go early, sit at the bar, tell them you're from out of town, and prepare for lots of beer (and if you throw them a bottle of something sour from out your way...). GBS is gonna be pretty tough to find at this point, but a lot was bottled, so i'm sure you could swing an in-person trade fairly easily if you bring a couple things with you (Odell, Crooked Stave, funkwerks, and rare Avery stuff would all be welcome here). they just released a coffee RIS, so there should be plenty of that around. Alewerks Cafe Royale is another great beer that came and may already have gone, but their bourbon barrel porter should be hitting next week, so you might be able to score a few of those. not a lot of domestic sours to be had, but Allagash Confluence should be easy to find and there are still bottles of Bruery Rueuze kicking around, as well.
