Sounds like the bottle in question was perhaps from the bottom on the tank and got some extra sludge along with beer during the fill. That would be my best guess. Has happened to me many times unfortunately (never with AC Golden beers however).

Hmm. Can't tell if this is a troll post or not. If not than don't expect a beer that has been left open in your fridge for hours to be as enjoyable as when you opened it...

I swear this is 100% not a troll post. Rarely do I ever put a beer back in the fridge to finish later, it does happen from time to time though and I realize there will be a decrease in carbonation and the beer will typically not drink as well as freshly opened. This instance was so far beyond that though, it was too weird. That last pour was damn near double the viscosity of the first part of the bottle.
Maybe Canada_Dan's post about the bottom of the tank could have something to do with this.

I was going to make a note that I have noticed the following beers start to sell out in the springs, which is actually from what I've heard contrary to what happened last year, due to the price.
    BA Yeti
    Copper Kettle Snowed In
    AC Golden Ctayt
So if you are thinking about getting these, might want to do it soon, I think they will be gone in about a month maybe less. I know that Veterans is already sold out of all 3 of these.

Had the Vanilla Bean Stout last night- so damn good!

Strong vanilla flavor, but not all artificial like Breckenridge Vanilla Porter. Nice barrel character. Chocolatey, roasty... Light-ish body, when compared to Uncle Jacob's or Tweak, but certainly not in a bad way. Had my first KBS later after a palate cleansing beer, and I honestly prefer the VBS to it, believe it or not!

This is going to be a staple in my fridge.

Tried Ratio BA Genius Wizard last night.
    First : Soy Sauce.
Second: I'm OK with that for some reason, always was with BCBS too.
GW is also a little on the sticky and sweet side. I did pick up a 375ml bottle for the heck of it, a little high @ $10, but what the hell, it's XMas.
The standard GW was OK. I expect my RIS to more of a roast and/or chocolate character that I thought GW lacked. But it was a pretty good Imp stout.

For those of you who have tried Avery VBS......does it seem like it will age well? I have not tried it, but knowing it is a BA stout with vanilla and 10.4% I would guess it will age well.

I am stashing a few and looking forward to trying them a few months or a year from now. It's a big enough beer, drinks pretty mellow already IMO but I think it'll be silky smooth in the future

Agree, will def. drink one fresh now and after that buy some more bottles. Did Avery ever disclose what distillery the bourbon barrels were from?

Am drinking one and agree - it's very enjoyable now but don't see it getting worse with a little age.

What exactly are y'all hoping will happen with aging this? I can't see this improving. It's pretty thin and tastes like someone put a dash of bourbon in vanilla coke. I would imagine the vanilla will fade with time and you will be left with a dash of bourbon in a regular coke. I am a huge Avery fan but I am not of fan of this beer. YMMV

Curious what you are comparing it to when you say thin or if it's just personal preference?

The actual vanilla bean flavors may fade over time but the vanilla imparted by the barrel could become more pronounced while also mellowing out that "dash of bourbon." Maybe you dig a boozier BA stout?

Opinions and palates may vary of course. I feel pretty good about how gracefully it will age for my tastes. If I'm wrong, it's being brewed year round so I can always grab some more of the fresh stuff :grinning:

I'm sure I will get flack for this, but the bourbon qualities remind me of BCBS......in a much lighter way of course.

Tried Avery VBS from the bottle last night. Unlike @poonamibaxter I really enjoyed it but I agree that aging doesn't seem like it will improve this beer. Is this the same beer that Avery has sometimes had on tap at the brewery?

We also had BA Java Fidy from a crowler purchased last week and compared it to standard BA Ten Fidy from a stove pipe and Tweak from last year's release. The Java Fidy was good, but there was much discussion among our group about whether it was better than Tweak or "base" BA Ten Fidy.

Regardless, it was a good night of CO Barrel Aged Stouts.

It's thin compared to Czar(I was hoping this would be Ba czar), yeti, and ten Fidy which are all similar abv.

The bourbon qualities like bcbs? We must not be talking about the same beer. I had the Avery BA Vanilla Bean stout. Honestly it tastes like something Breckenridge would make, take from that what you will.

I very much enjoyed the Avery VBS. I did not think it was thin (to be honest, I think the Czar is much more thin), but to each his own. It had quite a bit more bourbon flavor than I had expected given the other notes/reviews I've seen on here. I'll probably sit on one for a while just to see what happens. After all, the price point is pretty good and it is available year round.

Too much vanilla, IMO. I can't imagine it getting much better with age. It's high enough ABV and should have enough roasted malts, I've just not met many vanilla stouts where the vanilla gets mellower without making it cloyingly sweet with a terrible finish after lengthy aging.

I'll add my 2c and say that after drinking a vbs over the last hr a great beer for the price would def pick up more the next time I'm out. Would love to see this around here like bbb is
