Anyone who had the first batch of this have any thoughts on sitting on it vs drinking fresh? Grabbed several last week (2nd batch, of course) with the intent to save them for a year or so, but then read that some of their other Signature Series didn't hold up that well with age.

I bought 3, four-packs of this and it seemed like there was a wide range in flavor to these. The reason I went back for the second 2 four-packs was the first was so absolutely amazing. We were all standing around in awe that Wynkoop could make a beer that good. The remaining beers were all over the place with off-flavors. I'd say 6 of the 8 cans had at least some level of infection or off-flavors. Such a bummer because they were so good initially.

It was aged in a bourbon barrel (Woodford Reserve IIRC) that was previously used by a secondhand party to create a bourbon barrel aged vanilla extract, hence why there is quite a bit of vanilla flavor in there too, got this info straight from the brewer last night.

Also, this beer is excellent. Everyone should go try it.

I have a bottle of the signature imperial stout from last year that I am still aging. Hopefully it holds up well...

I read this (not holding up well with age) about the Signature Series Double Coffee Porter, which makes more sense (coffee flavor falling off and all), so the stout might be fine.

Not a stout but didn't think it needed a new thread:
Tried River North's Grand Unified Theory (whiskey/cocktail BA imperial wit) over the weekend and was pretty impressed...ended up picking up a couple bottles...worth a try for sure!

Had a good bottle of GF Silva Stout. Have a Yeti Chocolate Oak Aged, Demise Of Ivan, Crime 2013 Series/Batch 08. Will go over to the store later tonight to see if any new brew's popped up.

    Cheers!

I just opened '14 a few weeks ago in preparation for the '15 release. I thought it held up real well and the best out of the Signature Series, though Bligh's is in the conversation.
The flavored porters and brown lost pretty much everything I liked about them. The Double Brown held up the best out of those 4, though still lost most of the whiskey.
But the Imperial Stout still tasted great. I'm definitely putting one aside for next year. I don't think I'm going to tempt 2 years on it however.

Mockery's Barrel Aged Coffee Imperial Stout is good too, $13 at the brewery for 22, can't beat that!

I just tried it yesterday and bought a few bottles. It's really solid....good base beer, light barrel character, moderate coffee, and a lot of vanilla.

Might have to make a stop Sunday on the way back from Taos. Seriously, I had never heard of Mockery until this thread. How is that possible? I've been in that neighborhood many times.

It's a really cool space too. Their bathrooms are probably the nicest I've ever seen at a brewery. TVs if you wanna watch sports. A big patio. And you can't beat free NBA Jam, Blitz, and Buck Hunter in the "barn?" next door.

Aye you did, I actually had it last Sunday when it was on tap just as "Barrel Aged Imperial Coffee Stout" https://www.facebook.com/MockeryBre...9751406415935/943494792374925/?type=1&theater

It's releases like this as to why I follow so many breweries on FB. Spontaneous, affordable, no absurd 5 bottle limit for a 5 case release so the out of towners can try it and people can trade it away from the locals, like some breweries try to pull off here. Mockery keeps growing on me, and now that GD Barrel Room has opened up, a little less crowded to let my daughter run around :grinning:

This is probably a dumb question, but anybody know of any liquid brain still floating around town? Any word on the next release date?
