Hello, headed back to Boulder for thanksgiving and was wondering what to shop for when there. I'm mainly into sours and stouts. Living in WI now, I mainly drink GI and Founders. I also still live off the Lips of faith series which are readily available here. I have heard good things about Crooked Stave. Is it readily available? Also are any Russian River sours available out there? I am touring New Belgium while there and possibly O'dells. Plan on shopping for some Avery as well if anyone has any suggestions as to what beers of theirs would fit my palate. Thanks

Odell The Meddler and DeConstruction should be on shelves, you can try Harvest Liquors on 30th and Arapahoe for RR sours, Funkwerks and Crooked Stave maybe too. Crabtree Berliner Weiss is pretty great.

A current Boulder resident can correct me, but if you hit Liquor Mart and Harvest Liquors you'll find the best of all that's "currently" available. If you start digging around random liquor stores (maybe not how you want to spend your Thanksgiving) you might find some stuff that you wouldn't expect to still be around (Rumpkin, BA Old Ruffian, etc.)

Oh that is what I plan on doing. Wine merchant, liquor mart, harvest. I thought I heard there is some new monster store in Broomfield now I wanna hit as well. Thanks for the suggestions on the Odell

Fat tire of course. I also like New belgiums Ranger IPA. Breckenridge Pandora's bock, and Breckenridge 471 IPA are all excellant. Moose Drool is delicious too.

Nov 28th is the tap room release of Avery Mephistopheles stout. Granted, your stay in Boulder probably won't be a week, but one never knows.
I'd buy as much as possible, along with whatever Rumpkin, Beast, and Samael's they had on hand.

Enjoy Thanksgiving in CO! I live in CO and am headed to WI for thanksgiving!

I dont know how much time you want to invest in beer tasting/buying expeditions during Thanksgiving. That being said, from my perspective and considering your tastes - I'd put Avery & Crooked Stave at the top of your "tour/taproom" list. Avery is right in Boulder and they always have an awesome assortment of stuff on tap. Great taproom experience too.
Crooked Stave is a must for sours/wild ales, head down to Denver & sample his stuff, then make purchases to take home based on what you find most attractive. Chad is the guy everybody's talking about - you've got to stop by Crooked Stave.
If you still have time after Avery/Crooked Stave to head up to Ft. Collins - sure, stop by Odells, Funkworks, New Belgium. Personally, I prefer the Odells experience/taproom over New Belgium - but both are good. Funkworks is much smaller, but astonishingly solid.

As far as bottles just do your homework on the bottle shops around & figure out which you want to invest time going to. I'd try to snag some of Odells Meddler, Deconstruction etc. Grab some of the rarer Avery stuff if you like - I'm sure you'll have no problem loading up on plenty of goodies to take back to WI, so many good options out here.

As a final note, you might want to consider bringing a few bombers/bottles of New Glarus (either of the Tarts, Enigma, etc) to trade at the various breweries. I've had multiple people at the breweries (especially Odells) find out that I was from WI and asked if I had any New Glarus to trade.

    Enjoy your Thanksgiving.

    +1 Crooked Stave must stop.

I'm in love with Prost Brewing too, but they're German style focused.

The store in Broomfield isn't exactly in Broomfield.
Tipsy's is the best, and its like outside of Morrison (where Red Rocks is).

Crooked Stave is definitely around. You might not encounter everything they make in one store, but the popular beer-centric stores will almost always have a couple beers from them. You can always try stopping by their tasting room to look for more, too. Depending on where you're coming from, it's almost on your way to Boulder from Denver.

New Glarus bottles are easy trade bait around here...or really pretty much anywhere outside of WI. Founders, too.

They don't can or bottle yet, but grab a growler at Wild Woods in Bouder. Their porter is amazing.

If you dig sours, Funkwerks has to be a go to.

Isn't Funkwerks more like Belgian-style golden ales? They aren't really sours are they? I thought all their beers used a saison yeast which gave them a tartness, but didn't think it was wild yeast. I could be wrong. Or maybe you were just implying if you like sours, you'd like Funkwerks, I agree with that, Funkwerks is great.

Everyone has answered most of your questions. I would recommend B Town Wine and Spirits in Boulder. It's just west of Avery on Arapahoe. They seem to have a lot of the limited Avery stuff (Rumpkin, Oud Floris, Odio Equum, maybe some Uncle Jacobs). They're also really nice guys. I'd definitely stop into Crooked Stave. The new tap room is nice and very laid back. I've been going almost every Friday.

I think Hazels in Boulder is our newest monster store. Closest big one to Broomfield is Total Bev Westminster (not to be confused with TB Thornton).

Best sour on the shelf right now is Odell's Friek.

I think that's what they originally started with (variations on saison and biere de garde yeast), but I've had some sour beers from them. I think they deviate a little here and there.
Not sure if the yeasts are all "wild" but they've produced a Berliner Weiss and some spins on Flemish ales. That said - I don't think they've bottled any of those.

They bottled a sour back in September. Was told it was 20 cases. I was heading out of town and couldn't make it up to get any before they sold out. They did say that they were going to be making some other sours.

I was more implying along the lines of he was going to be in Fort Collins visiting some breweries.
Funkwerks is also worth taking a look at as well. That's all
