I've got a coworker who's visiting CO (Denver) for vacation and would like to make a couple brewery recommendations to help him out. Got a few in mind, like Avery, however, would like the local feedback. Thanks in advance. Prost!!!
There are a bunch but i think Great Divide in Denver, and a short drive to Dry Dock and Bull n Bush are well well worth it. In Denver within walking distance Great Divide Wynkoop River North Denver Beer Co. Breckenridge Prost (opening soon) Surrounding area (Denver Subs) Bull n Bush Dry Dock Renegade Copper Kettle Arvada Beer Co Strange Vine Street Wit's End Trve (opening soon) Caution Brewing Coors/AC Golden/Sandlot Golden City Brewing p.s. C A P S CAPS CAPS CAPS!
There are a few different approaches you could take as there are something like 70 breweries within an hour of Denver. 1. You can hit up the places you know and love like Avery, Odell, Oskar Blues, Great Divide, etc. 2. You could hit up the locals only spots that people might know but they don’t really leave the area like the Bull & Bush, Dry Dock, Mountain Sun, Wynkoop, etc. 3. You could hit up all of the new small breweries springing up everywhere like Renegade, Wit’s End, Copper Kettle, etc. 4. Mix and match all of the above. How geeky are they? That might be a good place to start. I don’t think I’d send someone to Renegade ahead of Great Divide unless they were pretty serious about hitting the obscure places.
domingo mentioned it but i rarely see it mentioned in other co brewery to visit threads - mountain/southern sun pub are 2 of my fav places to visit when i go to denver/boulder. they have good cheap food and their beers are really, really good
On the same note, I'm going to be in Denver/Boulder for the week of July 4 with an 8 year old and and 11 year old. Any recommendations on best brewery tour with them?
Most places will have a simple "look at our equipment - I'll be happy to answer your questions" kind of tour. If you're looking for something more detailed or entertaining for non-beer people, I'd suggest New Belgium (an hour north in Ft. Collins) and Coors over in Golden. Both of those have guided tours and neat processes to see.
I don't think so, unless things have changed dramatically over the last couple of months. I think you can sign up for a tour the same week, but there aren't "walk up" tours anymore.
I heard Coors went to an automated tour "guide". Haven't been, cuz it sounds like robots....and robots scare me
If that's true about Coors, that kinda sucks. For what it was, it used to be a pretty interesting tour if you got a decent guide. Plus, it was crazy to see the sheer scale of the place compared to even the larger craft breweries like NB and Breckenridge. However I enjoy robots...as long as they aren't in disguise...
