Hey BAs, Doing a quick run down to COS/Manitou Springs area for some hiking and stuff. Any recommendations for a good place to get a late lunch and drink some good beers? Seems like from past threads there isn’t a ton of quality breweries in the area but maybe that’s changed? I was looking at cerebrum bc there taplist had lagers, sours, and IPAs. Doesn’t have to be a brewery though. A nice craft bar would work too. Thanks!
If you are heading through Castle Rock do yourself a favor and stop off at 1:05 W or Burley. Burley has your more typical pastry Stouts and hazy ipas, but 105 has a great selection of English beers is pretty tasty as well.
No idea what Cerebrum is, but Cerberus is a brewpub in Colorado Springs I would highly recommend - they are on par with many great Denver breweries when it comes to beer and their food is above and beyond the best brewery fair out there. Goat Patch and Metric are both worth checking out, even if their lineup isn't as consistently filled with bangers. Right now now Goat Patch has an excellent Dopplebock on and a Dry Hopped Limeade Shandy that I could drink by the gallon. As for hiking, what are you looking for? Palmer Park and Ute Valley both have some easy little trails you can knock out but for real hiking, you're gonna have to at least venture out to Woodland Park or Divide areas.
Garden of the Gods is nice, or at least used to be, for a hike. Head up 24 towards Woodland Park and there are a number of trail heads on the side of the road for something less crowded. But yes, Cheyenne Canyon is good to. I'll be in the Colorado Springs and Woodland Park areas in a couple weeks; any events I should be aware of? I will be checking out the breweries/brew pubs mentioned by @DanInRealLife above. Been a while since I've visited, looking forward to seeing what is good there.
I haven't seen anything announced yet, but Cerberus' 4th anniversary is coming up in about a week. There def won't be a mini festival like last year, but I imagine they'll have some special tappings. As for Garden of the Gods, I wouldn't actually call anything there "hiking" and it is always a shit show when it comes to crowds. That being said, COVID has brought the muppets out in droves and every good trail is busy right now, especially those close-by and easily accessible.
Thanks for the advice. I ended up hiking along Bear Creek, pretty beautiful hike but was pretty crowded. Ended up at Cerebrus, agreed its as good as some of the best in the Denver area. Their Elysian is one of the better hazy IPAs I've had in a while. Their lager game and everything else, including the food, was impressive. Second the recs here.
Rampart Range has been stupid lately. Its worth driving to Alamosa or Capulin to get away from the crowds.
Hey guys, does manitou springs have a decent bar/restaurant scene? I’ve driven through manitou a few times, and really liked the whole mountain town feel to it. But the party I’m with would be looking for good cocktails/craft beer within walking distance to our rental. I was thinking I’ll just stay in CO Springs if there’s not much of what we’re looking for in manitou.
