imo I like to keep them separated.i can't think of any beers I drank off hand that were inspired by a cocktail that I tried anyways.

I've had one gin barrel-aged beer (does that count lol?) and i'm hooked...sadly gin barreled beers are very rare.

That is entirely possible but I'd still give it a go:grinning:

Avery Fortuna. Borderline margarita, and fantastic!

Pipeworks - Brown and Stirred. Manhattan inspired strong ale, and the BA version is ridiculous.

    Martini Light

Light lager-beer (think bud light), flavored with a noticeable (and no more than noticeable... this is important) amount of juniper flavor, and shot of dry vermouth added before carbonating and packaging. Serve ICE COLD (because a good dry martini is supposed to be ice cold).

This would take serious talent to make, I have a feeling.

Also Odd Side Scallywagger. Rum and Pineapple dominate the flavor. Not for everybody but definitely an interesting beer, I enjoyed it.

I believe Orlison's Two Finger Pour is inspired by the Old Fashioned.

I have to say, if you can every find a place that does a prickly pear margarita, go for it. If you ever find yourself in San Antonio go to Boudro's and get theirs. SN did me a favor by creating this beer, the only thing I like better than Blood Orange is prickly pear.

Interesting that it's supposed to taste like a Manhattan. I definitely got some sweeter notes that resembled a Manhattan, but the sour component of the beer did not resemble a Manhattan, and led me to believe it was fashioned (no pun intended) after a whiskey sour.

This is the only description I found online that actually includes the type of cocktail. Has Avery released anything specifically stating what type of cocktail it tastes like other than the allusion on the label?

Agree that the huge sour flavor is not very Manhattan like, but, as I understand it, Manhattan is Dutch for "many hills" and the name of the beer, Insula Multos Collibus, is Latin for island of many hills. Here's an article with Andy Parker (aka @rekrappy) talking about it: http://www.dailycamera.com/lifestyl...g-company-expands-barrel-aged-line-craft-beer

So I think cocktail inspired beers can be real hit or miss (usually miss), I think Westbrook is a great example of the parody as they make one of my favorite cocktail beers (Fisticuffs which pulls off an old fashioned exceptionally well) and also a cocktail inspired beer that I very much dislike (Whiskey Sour Weisse Weisse Baby). Def try that Fisticuffs if you can though.

River North out of Denver is putting out some decent fare based on aging beers in the same barrels as liquors/liqueurs that are constituents of cocktails.
