Crew, want to give these guys some love ... picked up their IIPA today at Hazel's, cracked it tonight ... really, REALLY solid. Great balance, tons of Citra hops, etc ... Labeling was great (sorry, it drew me into buying it ... on a shelf at Hazel's to accomplish that is no small fete). I'm in for more from them! Let's get the love going if these guys prove themselves as they're starting to distribute. Again, my first go at them was really, really good ... I'm headed back tomorrow to buy the rest of the portfolio Happy drinking!
I've really grown fond of Coda. Loads of off the wall gimmick beers, but done much much better than most places trying similar approaches. They have some really good traditional beers, too. The first time I was there the beers were okay to good, but I think they're upping their game a lot. That said, their packaged beer prices are steeeeeep. They're expensive in their own cooler, too. Luckily their normal drafts are affordable. Their partner pub (Cedar Creek) has some excellent taps, too. If you're lazy, they'll deliver food across the street to Coda. You have be wary of parking around rush hour. Because of the hospital and med/pharm school it can be tough to get a spot some days. It's tempting to park in the staff lots, but they're quick to tow people sans passes.
I'm a fan of their 180 Gram RIS and even more so of the Bourbon aged version. Rosalita: Chocolate Java Porter is what I wanted it to be: a respectable porter with coffee. Migration Oatmeal Stout isn't mindblowing, but a good representation of the style.
No idea where those prices came from -- was $10 for the IIPA and that was priciest beer on the shelf from them.
Stopped in Coda for the first time a couple weeks ago. Had a lot of tasters and they were all really solid. The BA 180 Gram was very nice. Also a big fan of the IIPA. Cool taster glasses too.
Was in Boulder yesterday and the bottles range from $10-14 at Hazel's and BLM. I haven't seen much of the bottles in my usual haunts, but they could be cheaper in Denver. One of the ones they bottled is Sleepyhead, a passion fruit blonde that fans of Lilikoi would almost certainly love. It won a GABF silver last year.
You're right - I stopped back in Hazel's yesterday and forgot to repost, IIPA was $12. Sorry - solid stuff though, def a bit on the pricey side ...
I will agree that their beers are good. The pale ale was REALLY solid as was the passionfruit kolsch and IIPA. But at a minimum $11 per I won't be buying their beer. That pricing is truly crazy for a local brewery. Especially with all the great IPA we have around and Lilikoi 4 packs...
Is the IIPA everyone is talking about here Covalent? If so, that's one of my favorite new local IPAs in the past year. Very well done.
If the price of their bottles is a bit steep (understandable), I'd suggest paying them a visit. They have a nice taproom and their draft beers are the typical $4-5.
Does anyone know if there is a born on code on these bombers? Just picked up a covalent and I am curious as to how fresh this thing is...
I believe those bottles have only been on shelves a fairly short amount of time. Probably less than 6 weeks. All of them should be drinking fine.
Add me to the hype train here. Covalent is an excellent brew. Didn't look at the receipt, so it could be a major ripoff which is the issue most people here seem to have with their stuff. quite juicy and citrusy and going down way too easy for the abv. Fort Collins people: I found it at craft beer cellar. The guys there told me it can't be found elsewhere in the fort, fwiw. Taste the rare
