Hi All, I was curious if anybody knew anything about the history of coffee in beer. Is it a relatively recent thing, or was there any tradition of brewing beer with coffee from the old world? I'm was thinking the English would have maybe done it, but I guess they're not big coffee drinkers either. Just food for thought. Cheers, Ben
I'm pretty sure New Glarus Brewing made one of the first coffee infused beers in the US - their coffee stout. Think that was back in the early 90's.
I'm pretty sure this is one of those ideas that came from the US homebrewing community in the 90s. Red Hook/Starbucks also had an early commercial version, but it was from the mid-90s.
