Hey BA I have a pretty straightforward question - If I buy beer that is refrigerated and store it with my 'cellared' beer at room temp, will it have off-flavors when I eventually chill it again? A store near me carries a decent selection but it is all refrigerated and I like to store some bottles. I have always assumed this caused 'skunking' but wanted to know if this is true or not. Thanks
No. Just try not to store hoppy beers at room temp. Otherwise, standard temp fluctuations do nothing.
This myth never seems to go away. Beer is usually filtered/packaged cold, so if you're buying beer at room temperature, it has already gone through this temperature swing at least once. As long as you're not talking many, huge temperature swings, you're fine (and even then you'd be hard pressed to tell).
Can someone make a sticky out of this or something? Seems like it has earned a spot in the FAQ or maybe a "beer myths" page.
I have a question within this thread that I'd like some insight on. I've bought some Lindamens Cuvee Rene (it's basically the only gueze I can get without trading or ordering) at Total Wine a few times, and two of them have been skunked or off. I'm curious as to what could've caused this..? I'm also wondering if anyone has had a similar experience, and if the store gave you a refund or at least a discount on a future purchase.
