Doing an "experimental" 2 gallon batch with a mr. Beer fermenter. The fermenter has a lid that screws on with notches in it. If I were to cold crash with it should I put a cover to prevent any suck back of oxygen though the notches?

    Two things...
    1) MrB's LBK has the capacity to ferment a 2.45G (9L) batch size.
    2) There's little...if any...'suck-back' when cold crashing an LBK.

Thanks! I wasn't sure was causes air to be sucked back into the fermenter.

Suckback is caused by a drop in pressure (such as is caused by a drop in temperature when crashing). I don't see how a Mr. Beer keg would be any more or less susceptible to it than, say, a carboy. But I agree it's not something to obsess over. If you want to cold crash, it's a necessary evil. (Unless you can transfer to something sealed, like a corney keg, first.)
