    Heyo,

So with March Madness (rock chalk) and Collaboration Fest this might just be one of my favorite weekends of the year. Anyone else excited for this event? I'm not usually super keen on collab beers, but I was pretty impressed with quite a few last year. Any beers ya'll looking forward to? I've got my eye on the Stone/Ska, Epic/Devil's Backbone & Station 26/Cigar City not to mention both of Comrade's.

Any one else got some gems they're looking out for, or any not on the list (below) that sound interesting? Any word on what TRVE or DC Brau are up to?

Cheers & hope to see ya'll there,

    Ben

That event looks like it's going to kick untold amounts of ass. Can't see this list at work for some reason, but there are probably a dozen or more beers I'm excited for.

This should be a purdy good fest. How 'bout the Wynkoop/Tivoli imperial malt liquor?!
Twisted Pine is teaming up with Blind Tiger for a weizenbock...should be good. BT makes some good Germans

Unsure about the venue space---but it is a great time of year (Jayhawk!)

Looking forward to blind tiger too, worked in Topeka for a short time.. thank god it was short, but they had a galaxy IPA that may have been one of the best beers I've ever tasted.

Good call on the Verboten and New Belgium. That Kentucky Common Verboten does is one of my favorite beers in the state.

Pfft... I lived there for 18 long years. Of course, during none of that time was there a brewery :slight_frown:

We did collaboration beers with The Bruery and Ska. The Bruery beer, "Brve," is a strong wit fermented with a mixed yeast culture (sacch, wild, brett) in white wine barrels. The Ska beer, "Horns," is a big brown ale fermented with two yeast strains in Peach Street whiskey barrels (think old ale).

So I'm volunteering this year but the details aren't very clear. Did you choose not to drink last year, or would they not let you? Even if we can't partake, I'm sure we'll have a great time.

I've volunteered at lots of imbibe events, and as long as you're responsible they haven't had any problem with you having a few.

I was choosing not to drink last year. IMBIBE does not stop you from enjoying the event, but like @bfields4 said you just cannot get out of control. what shift are you volunteering for? I am set-up

Sorry, just now seeing this. We were the 430-630 check in shift. Got to partake for a few mins before and after our shift. Def worth our time.

Any comments on the beers? There we're several that I thought were great (OB/DC Brau, both Comrade/Crooked Stave, TRVE/Bruery) and several that weren't for me...

My favorites were the OB/DC brau, TRVE/bruery, former future/denver off the wagon and the avery powder keg. Im sure Im forgetting some but those were great!
Someone had a peanut butter and jelly beer that was crazy accurate too. Pretty tasty

    Great time at the fest!

That was a really good event. Lots of room, lines were minimal (and mostly people just needlessly standing around instead of real lines) and there was a good variety of beers. With the 50 or so TV's I have no idea why they didn't bother to list the beers on them instead of just the breweries involved. That was my only gripe and it was minor.

My overall favorite was probably the Summit County BA barleywine. Great Divide's citra dry hopped sour with Aspen was nearly as good. Hogshead's brown with Upslope was really nice. The Comrade version of the Crooked Stave strong wit was top notch. I liked the CS version, but think more time would suit it well. TRVE's peach whiskey brown was another.
I really liked both from Wit's End. They had one with Strange and one with the Denver Cider Company. WE was tucked into a corner and I didn't see their stuff until pretty close to the end. Backcountry/Left Hand and Blind Tiger/Twisted Pine both had good, but totally different spins on weizenbocks...which I love. The Golden dry hopped saison was another winner. I missed the Dry Dock spicy apricot, but that one is awesome.

There were some definitele duds, though. I got full-on butter assaulted 4-5 times and baby vomit a time or two as well. Some others just simply weren't good. With random collaborations that's probably no surprise, though.

Anyway, I hope they hold more events there and follow a similar gameplan.

According to Imbibe many of the breweries didn't inform them in time of what exactly they were making. I wish the booklets at least listed all of the collabs (beers would have been a nice extra).
I can say I am even more excited for Call to Arms to open. Odells beers were great and so were Station 26. I agree with the Barleywine from the Summit County peeps. Lots of meh beers, but I enjoyed it overall.
I think the weird layout created unnecessary pods of people just standing around, but it was a great improvement from last year.

I don't even know if the weird loitering in fake lines thing is just the nature of beerfests. I don't know if I've ever been to one that didn't have it. I don't get it either. Why do people feel the desire to loiter in single file near a real line? It's almost like when you're at the airport and one person goes up to talk to the gate crew. Guaranteed, more people will follow suit and you'll have a useless line in seconds. The Ska/Stone line was a total mess and even disrupted the (much better) TRVE brown ale line right beside it.
I didn't get a chance to try the Call to Arms item. With so many (mostly good) options, I missed out on half of the stuff being poured I'm sure.
I didn't make the event last year, but this is definitely on my list of events I will try to attend from now on.
