I went to school in Pittsburgh, gotta love all the great PA beers (Troegs and Victory) as well as other beers I got in PGH that I can't get in NJ (Fatheads, Bells).

My favorites out of these four breweries were:
    Prima Pils
    HopDevil
    Perpetual IPA
    Hopback Amber
    Nugget Nectar
    Headhunter
    Two-Hearted

Would kill someone to try Hop Juju....

I'm taking graduate classes at Temple right now. Go Owls (I think).

As far as beer goes, i second the votes for Sierra Nevada - Torpedo and SN Stout are often $27 a case, right over the bridge in Jersey. Some of the session IPAs can also be found for that price here.

Finally, there are bottle shops in PA that sometimes mark down beer as it comes to the end of its shelf life - I found some pretty good seasonal beers from Sam Adams and Magic Hat for $20 a case (not the best, but not bad)

I went to college in PA and Flying Dog Raging bitch was a staple of mine. I was getting it for about $28 a case at the time. Other good ones are DFH 60 min, Stone IPA, most Weyerbacher and Troegs.

If you're trying to save money on beer, whatever you do DON'T GO TO MONK'S CAFE!

When I was in college I drank a lot of Sam Adams. Breweries like Southern Tier, Rogue and Victory have some good beers that aren't too expensive as well. If you are in to Wheat Beers, Franziskaner Hefe-Weisse was another one I drank a lot of in college that is a really solid beer in that $35 a case range. But as a few people on here have said before, I you live in PA (I am originally from Pittsburgh), Yuengling is always a solid and inexpensive option.

I'm in the same boat as you! 21, college senior, beer geek. I originally thought I "didn't like beer" because the extent of my beer trying was bud light, natty light, and busch light. Then a few years back I tried some Goose Island Matilda and was like "hey this is good. this has flavor." So now, I try to balance my small budget and still get good beer. Being in STL, the local Schlafly beers is reasonably priced ($8-9 for a sixer) and really tasty. Cheers

I too am a college student in PA and drink nothing but craft beer...on a college budget it is hard but with work study jobs its possible. What I do though is constantly talking to beer distributors and calling to see what is on sale. They will often tell you and alot of places have a discount section with nearly expired beers but we are in college so we will enjoy them quickly. Last week I picked up two cases of Samuel Adams Winter Lager that expires in May for 17 bucks a piece! Also my go to cheap beers are Yuengling Black and Tan 18 bucks a case and Gennesse Cream Ale 15 bucks for 30. Really neither are great but still good.

calling it "Natural Light" would sound as un-natural (pardon me) as calling Bud Light "Budweiser Light".

It's for money saving reasons I mentioned getting something significantly better AND something mildly better. Drinking craft all night is going to be more expensive than getting a little buzz and palate fatigue going and switching over to something non offensive.

    I like Genny Cream.

Many great suggestions here but in PA most push the price issue north of $35 a case...

I will recommend Susquehanna Brewing...price low 30's...I like their Goldencold better than Yuengling and Naragansett...Their Hopfive is a solid IPA as well...There is also Newbold IPA from Philadelphia Brewing company (not the best but good enough for the price). Yards beers are also relatively inexpensive and very well done.

The Philly beer scene is phenomenal, hit the bars and I am sure you will find craft on draft and on special at different bars on different days of the week.

Grab a copy of Philly Beer Scene Magazine and Mid Atlantic Brewing News for specials and inexpensive events and festivals.

I agree with the other posters...two cases of keystone are equal to one case of 5.5%+ ABV beers. Finally, like tkdchampxi said, prices are a little cheaper in Jersey, but keep in mind you have to pay the $5 toll to go over the bridge, so stock up if you hit NJ to make it worthwhile.

If you are into German lagers, go with Dab, if it's available. Might be more on the macro side but it's really friggin cheap in Chicago and tastes nice. 6 for 7 clamz

"Beast Ice" aka Millwakee's Best Ice. You're in college bro... the quality vs quantity paradigm should still vastly be shifted towards quantity.

Enjoy it while you still can!
