Brew in South Philly has a featured 6 pack of the month which is usually about $10. Right now you can get any Great Lakes six pack. That's always my go-to spot when I'm a bit tight on money but still want some good beer.

I go to school full time and I work full time. Do most people not do it that way? Weird concept but if you have a job you can buy better beer.

Not sure if you get it, but what about Lagunitas 6-packs? Most are good-excellent and at around a $8.99/6 price ignoring sales.

I'm getting ready to graduate from college in May with my bachelor's. I think the key is moderation. I try a decent (my opinion) amount of craft beer and only spend probably 40 bucks over a 3 month period. I can also pound out Bud Light, Corona, Land Shark, etc. (which I love to do as well). I don't have an aversion to "lesser" beers. I embrace what I like and as a result, do not spend a ton of money on beer. Just buy what you can and don't feel bad if you can't afford other things. As others have said. It'll get better once you have a full-time job.

New Belgium has a lot of budget friendly beer. Rampant just might be the best bang for buck beer out there. a 6er of imperial ipas for 10 bucks!

I would look at what the plan for the night is. If it's ruit, flip cup, and card games yuengling all the way. If it's social drinking go to the store and look at the prices and decide that way. Plus take bars out of the equation since they jack those prices up anyway so there is never really a "deal"

Do they sell Saranac in your area? It's an upstate New York brewery - nothing astounding - but they make decent, affordable beer in basically every style. Just stay away from the Berry Weisse. It tastes like a wine cooler.

Back in my day, we drank Steel Reserves... and wished we didn't.

However, these are some breweries near you that sell inexpensive, half-decent beer:

Tired Hands (Ardmore... Five dollar 32 oz growler fills for spectacular beer right off the regional rail station. Need I say more?)
    Yards (Center City)
    Triumph (Old City)
Tröegs (Hershey... yes there's stuff there other than the creepy Hershey Park)
Neshaminy Creek (Croydon -- Right off Bristol Pike)
Weyerbacher (Half-wayish between Philly and New York)
SBC (waay out on the Penn Pike. Close to the Northwest NY border. cheap beer though)

and yes, you have Yuengling in Pottstown.

You're twenty-one years old; be ambitious and take an adventure, don't lose to the man and settle for mediocre

I'm a college student, and here's what I can say:
    - Sierra Nevada, New Belgium, and Sam Adams are your friends. They have 12 packs that cost less than $18 a pop. This is a little more than $1/beer.

    - More local places generally have 6 packs available for $10 or less (for me, this includes Upland, Founders, and Bells), with prices also just a little more than a $1/beer.

    - Treat yo self to some nice bottles every now and then ($3+/beer) just to keep things interesting

    - If you want to drink more than that, buy a 30 rack of PBR and deal with it. However, in your area you get Yuengling which has more flavor than a PBR. Go with that, especially if you can get the price/12oz down below $1/beer.

I generally consume less than $5 beer/week based on the above calculations, but that doesn't mean I don't have great selection and good options.

How has no once mentioned All Day IPA 15 packs yet?

They're about $30/30 pack here in NJ. That's only a few bucks more expensive than Bud/Bud Lt/Coors

Some bruery's-Tired Hands is not some bruery. It may be the greatest brew pub in America and one of the greatest in the world

Assuming the OP's goal in drinking beer (as a college student) is a good buzz, I think you'll find many craft beers are as inexpensive as the cheap stuff you are drinking when you consider abv/price ratio.
You can get many Lagunitas/Stone/Troegs/Sierra Nevada/Weyerbacher 6 packs for under $10 with abv's ranging from 6%-10% so do the math and your not really paying any more for quality beers.
