Hey all, I've got a weekend trip to MD coming up and trying to figure out a place to stay preferably near a solid brewery or taphouse. One night we'll be at Merriweather Post Pavilion (first time) and another we have an obligation about 30 miles north.

Any places in Columbia or the surrounding area a must to grab some beer or check out? Anywhere near MPP that's cool but not a madhouse on a show night? Any input is welcome. Thanks!

Perfect Pour is your best bet for bottles but may run a tad pricey if you want to bring something back with you. For places to grab a beer, check out Frisco Taphouse, Alehouse Columbia, Victoria Gastro Pub to name a few in that area. You will obviously have a bunch of good options a short hike north into Baltimore (Maxs, etc).

For breweries, not a ton really around the area you can visit except for Jailbreak in Laurel (cool space, meh beers) and Heavy Seas in Halethorpe.

Pretty much sums up Columbia fairly well. If you are traveling up to Baltimore area, I recommend Max's (of course) and Of Love and Regret. Also in Baltimore, Union Craft Brewery would be a great stop. But like said above, not a whole lot of good breweries in Columbia area.

Thanks guys, this is definitely helpful. Won't be heading to Baltimore this time though.

Jailbreak looks really close to where I'll likely be so that's great. Heavy Seas is a bit further, but also we get a lot of their stuff down here. Definitely appreciate the taphouse recs - those go a long way too.

Frisco's updates their draft list online. Alehouse has it up but I'm not sure it is always up to date. So, you can at least see what is on if you are trying to choose on one stop.

If you are going to Columbia, laurel is just a short drive.... Jailbreak brewery is doing some great things.... They also have a hotel/bus deal. By far my favorite md brewery in the central md area.

Agreed their Big Punisher is killer!! Thought the Scoville IPA could use a bit more heat. Like what I have had so far for sure...

If you want to visit breweries then Heavy Seas and Union Craft are your best bets. Union Craft does free tours on the weekend, you can taste anything they have on tap for free, and their pint prices are reasonable. Heavy Seas has a $5 tour + pint glass + 5 tastings deal that is pretty good as well. They'll generally have 6-7 standbys and 2-3 more interesting offerings on tap.

Death Cab and Explosions in the Sky so still a little ways out, just trying to figure out where to stay. Never been to that venue before but I've heard good things. We scored some pit tickets so that helps.

    Thanks man.

I appreciate all the input here and everyone corroborating the recs! Just because we won't be going to Baltimore sounds like Jailbreak and will probably hit 2 of the taphouses/pubs mentioned.

There is a new brewery out of Ellicott City called Manor Hill. Had some of their beers at Victoria over the weekend. Nothing that blew me away, but they had some ipas and saisons.

Just throwing out some other options for you. You won't find anything you can't likely get at all the places mentioned already, but sometimes there are a few gems to be had. Look up TBonz, Judges Bench, or White Oak Tavern. They are just a few minutes outside of Columbia (Ellicott City). Also, if your timing is right, Bulkhead Brewing in Columbia should be opening very soon. The beers listed on the website sound great, but that's about all I know for now.

Looks like you can't actually visit the Manor Hill Brewery, but their beers are available at Victoria's. Can also get growler fills at Victoria's.
