Headed down to Columbia this weekend for a wedding from the RTP area...any recommendations as to where to hit up in and around the area? Looking around online there seems to be limited options, but maybe someone out there knows of some hidden gem locations? Would love to hit up Westbrook but it looks like its closed on Sunday!
River Rat in Columbia has some decent beer. I've never been to the brewery but have had it on tap in NC. If you're already willing to make the extra trip to Charleston for Westbrook, they have a larger selection of breweries. Not sure about Sunday hours though...
Greens piney grove for bottles The Kracken for a great beer/meal combo There are plenty spots in the Vista Area which are all extremely close to one another (Liberty, Flying Saucer, World of Beer and PLENTY of other restaurants.)
Went to Hunter-Gatherer for dinner and beers while I was down there last. Good food and the house brews were pretty solid as well. Definitely worth a stop if you are in town.
River Rat and Conquest brewing are both within a couple miles of one another and both have some pretty solid offerings. If you're looking for a good bottle shop try Craft and Draft. They've got a nice selection of local beer as well as good rotating taps.
All good suggestions above. Craft and Draft is celebrating its second anniversary this Saturday afternoon. There are lots of other fun places such as The Whig. I was drinking $3 Hoparts at Cafe Strudel in West Columbia during Happy Hour yesterday. Hope you enjoy the wedding!
As far as breweries go, Columbia breweries are disappointing compared to Charleston and Greenville breweries IMO. River Rat is riddled with bad batches and off flavors while Conquest makes some OK offerings.
I would 2nd craft and draft although the it will be very crowded on Saturday but it should be a good time
