I am heading to Wooster for the Ohio Brewers Guild Conference and then to Columbus with the wife and kid. I graduated from OSU 10 years ago so am not sure where to go. A little help would be appreciated:

    1) Any places to hit between Wooster and Cbus?
    2) Should I stay in the Arena District? We will have our 2 year old with us so central location and places to walk to are priority.
    3) What breweries/beer bars should we hit? Places for bottles within downtown/campus area?
    4) Any restaurant recommendations? Wife is kind of a foodie but remember we will have a 2 year old and will likely go for lunch/early dinner.
    5) Any other cool spots to go? We will hit campus, COSI and likely North Market.

Thanks for the help. Looking forward to Cbus.

1)Nothing too crazy in between Wooster and Cbus, I have been hearing good things about jafb (brewery) in Wooster but have yet to try myself.

    2) Yes, a lot of options to walk to

3)Bottle shops Weilands, Corner Stone, Barrel and Bottle. Bars St james tavern, Bodegas, Crest all those bars usually have the best selection Crest has some good food as well but a little pricy. Brothers Drake for mead. Breweries there are a decent amount in the area but most are pretty meh, probably seventh son worth checking and few others, but nothing that great imo. What styles do you like? Definitely have to get some bodhi of course.

    4) Yes tons of good restaurants in the area what are you looking for?

    5) Cosi will be fun, for sure the north market to walk around and enjoy, not sure about other spots in that area for family/kids

I assume you know about JAFB in Wooster and they are awesome. There is another new brewery on the other side of 71, Phoenix Brewery, heard it's decent but haven't been there yet.

If you stay at the Arena District I would recommend hitting Barley's which is walking distance for you and right in front of North Market. They have great beer and usually under rated in my opinion and the food is overall pretty good. Get the char grilled wings!

Theohiotaproom.com is a great place to get growler fills of local beers and they're counter pressure fills so you don't have to commit to opening so soon.

Barrel and Bottle is located North Market. Corner stone is your best bet for variety and location to Arena. I know there's a new bottle shop that open in the arena but I haven't checked it out yet.

Short North area is a great location for some good food. Bakersfield is worth going to for really good tacos. Bit of a young crowd but if you're there early you'll be fine.

Thanks for all of the tips. My wife has told me we can't go to any of my "college" bars and restaurants. She specifically said no Thurman Café which I think is a shame. I may have to sneak into Novak as that was my bar for 3 years.

As for restaurants, something like a gastropub is usually our thing.

What are the can't miss local beers? Is Bodhi available everywhere?

JAFB (Just Another Fucking Brewery) in Wooster makes some great IPAs but I am assuming you will be there either way.

The Arena District is a tricky area to find great beer. Barleys has okay beer and pretty good food. North Market is a must, you can drink beer while you shop for beer and you can also eat a lot of good food. The Vietnamese place is great for a noodle or rice bowl. Other than those two places I would head elsewhere.

Check out The Crest Gastropub, large local beer selection and great food.
Grandview Area is growing Haubrauhaus, Zauber, Four String and Land Grant are all breweries.
Short North has Bodega which is one of best beer bars in Ohio.
Depending on which way you are traveling Brews Cafe in Granville has an amazing beer selection.

I would also try Land Grant Brewery in Franklinton, world of beer brewery district, seventh son is very good, if you want growlers, daily growler in upper Arlington is great.

In Mansfield, there is a brewery called Phoenix in an old funeral home. The beers are very good.

Not exactly on the way, but 101 Beer Kitchen is outstanding for kids, believe it or not. Their food is great and so is their beer selection. Worth going "out of the way" to Dublin. We go with our kids every time we're in C-bus.

Gotta say Brews in Granville is top notch and I agree with Bogforce that Barleys is underated for Craft Beer and Food.

Walking? In February? Bwahahahahahahahahahaha *cough* Sorry. Had to.

Most of the guys above have covered things. I'd add in Pint House and North High Brewing to the list. Both are in the Short North.

If you go to the Ohio Tap Room bring your clean growlers from home and save yourself the cash to buy new glass.

I'll also be in Columbus this coming weekend. I'm looking to grab some beers that are not distributed in Michigan that are readily available in Ohio. I'm a big Stout/Porter fan, especially Milk Stouts and Vanilla infused anything. Anyone have some advice as what it good? Thanks in advance!

I'm not 100% sure what's on shelves right now, but if you need advice on where to shop shoot me a message.

Your best bet for "big stouts and vanillas" would be an IP trade for BB Dark Apparition and Dark Apparition Vanilla and Coffee bean. Those are two of the most recent Jackie O's releases

    Good luck!

Don't shoot me for this, but is Yuengling available pretty much everywhere?

Also, if I want to pick up a bunch of IPAs/Pale Ales to bring back which should I grab?

Every grocery store or carryout should have it. Grocery for sure.
    IPAs:
    Bodhi (growler only)
    CBC IPA and Pale Ale
    Fat Heads HeadHunter
    Brew Kettle White Rajah
Hoof Hearted makes some great local IPAs (growler only though)
