The pace of brewery expansion in Columbus has become pretty mind boggling. It wasn't long ago that a casual perusal of a local website or two was all it took to keep my personal spreadsheet of Columbus MSA craft breweries updated. But life got busy late last year, and it wasn't until last week that I was able to update the spreadsheet. I think/hope, then, that this is accurate. Let me know what I may have missed:

Slight update/expansion of the Columbus list. Rockmill Brewing has signed a lease for a sour beer facility (Rockmill Tavern) in the former World of Beer site on S Front Street; probably won't open until sometime in 2017. The future of their German Village location is still in from of that area commission, so I've left it off the list. Second, I'm claiming the potential Maple Hill Farm Brewery in Washing Courthouse as a "Columbus" brewery (if it opens). It's in the Columbus CSA (bigger than the MSA) and media market. if this place does open as a commercial brewery, it'll also be a sour beer specialist. Note, too, that Wolf's Ridge Brewing's taproom is opening its own kitchen on June 21.

All told, this gets Columbus up to 39 breweries opened or in the planning stages (to the best of my knowledge, the bolded entries are open; non-bolded not yet.

CBC snags BrewDog's USA VP Jason Davis is its new director of strategic planning and is ramping up for a series of production increases in its new 50,000 square foot brewery. Six new 120 barrel fermentation tanks were just installed, increasing capacity by 75%.

This Dispatch piece mentions future expansion:

"As soon as these (new tanks) go up and we start filling them," Bean said, "we're going back to the bank about the second round."

Personally, I've always seen CBC as Columbus' most promising option for a true, homegrown craft brewery that could have a solid regional presence. Glad to see Eric is adding so much production capacity. From a more selfish perspective, I also want that damned tap room to open. Glad, too, they finally got a new website.

The Dispatch also just published the following article about Brexit and the BrewDog facility in Canal Winchester:

Not slowing them down, maybe, but their opening is now delayed until October/November; I assume losing Davis didn't help matters any. They expect/hope to raise $50 million from Equity for Punks USA... good luck with that.
