World of Beer Brewery District is probably your best bet for that neck of the woods. If you make it that far, Columbus Brewing Company is about a whole 3 buildings further.
World of Beer is good, as is CBC, but they are both about 15+ blocks away. Elevator Brewing Company is about 4 blocks away on N High St, and has alright beer. A newer brewery, Wolf's Ridge Brewing, is about 5 blocks away between Lazelle and N 4th St just off of Hickory. A bit further on N High St is Barley's which has beer that ranges from okay to awesome, and has one beer on cask at all times. Right behind Barley's is North Market, which is home to Barrel and Bottle, which has a pretty nice selection of stuff, including things that sell out at other shops, since people seem to ignore that they exist (had bottles of both Robert The Bruce and Oracle while I was there, as well as a bottle of Citra Hero, Jukebox Hero, and quart bottles of Lagunitas Sucks, among other things). If you go further north on N High St, you'll come across a lot of good places (Pint House, North High Brewing, Bodega, etc). Also, if you like coffee, Cafe Brioso is nearby on E Gay St. Cheers
A place called Tip Top about 50 yards from the Renaissance on Gay St usually has a lot of good locals on tap as well. Solid food too.
