Heading to Columbus from Pittsburgh this weekend for Rock on the Range. Any recommendations for restaurants or beer stores I should hit up while I'm there?

The last time I was there I meant to hit up the German Village area but didn't get a chance. Thanks for reminding me of that.

Bodega during off hours. Columbus brewing, bhodi is an amazing double IPA.

I've been to Columbus Brewing Company, The Elevator Brewery, and Schmidt's when I've visited Columbus in the past, and I enjoyed each place a lot. They are solid recommendations.

For beer stores, Anderson's General store at Sawmill and 161 and Weiland's market on Indianola are my 2 Columbus favorites.

For a long time classic hole in the wall bar that now has a surprisingly good beer selection, try Bob's bar on High St near the intersection with Morse Rd.

The craft beer world in Columbus is pretty fantastic. The closest craft beer stores to you while at rock on the range will be weiland's gourmet market and savor market. Both have Sophie paradisi on tap for growler fills. If you actually head downtown, there is plenty of breweries to get some delicious beer from. Columbus Brewing Co has a top rated DIPA called Bodhi and Elevator Brewing Co has an award winning Barley Wine called Bar Bar. Also, look at these drinkupcolumbus.com/category/beer and drinkupcolumbus.com/2013/03/26/columbus-breweries-infographic/

Awesome, thanks for all the suggestions so far. We'll be going to ROTR in the evenings, but our hotel is actually right next to Ohio State so we'll be all over the city.

4th Street Bar and Grille is less than a mile from Crew Stadium (it's a Columbus Crew supporter's bar) and they've got a decent tap list and the food is pretty good. Saturday is game day so it will be pretty crowded, but it's damn close to the stadium.

If you can get to Bodega before 5:00 or so then do it, otherwise it's a madhouse.

The Crest in Clintonville seemed pretty cool when I was there on Sunday night (half price drafts => Jackie O's for $2.50) and the late night menu was solid good.

Anderson's and Weiland's are my go-to beer stores, but there are a few others sprinkled around the campus area that may have some surprises. BM me if you'd like to know more about those...

I've been to three Rock on the Range shows, they're fantastic. There is a Winking Lizard on 5th Ave that just opened with a great selection and decent bar food, this is close to campus, and also close to Four Stings Brewing and Zauber Brewing, both do growler fills. In fact if you own/want growlers, bring them. There are tons of places that fill growlers. If you don't have a growler, then I suggest going to The Daily Growler...MIND BLOWN!

If you don't go to CBC and get some Bodhi, you're doing yourself a great disservice.

I've heard great things but unfortunately I'm not much of an IPA or DIPA guy.

Kenny rd market has a great selection and i believe opens at 9 am (15 min north of campus). Weilands, Palmer and savor are close and literally minutes away from each other. Pace on high is close also. Barleys on high is good ( north market is right behind it and has a decent but small beer store in it) as is Barleys on Riverside dr (barbecue). Riverside has more guests and an extra cask. Bobs and Bodega arent far either. Im going to ROTR also. If you have any thing to trade BM me and maybe we can meet. Get ready for 9$ bud lights!

Pace High Carry Out, 3179 N. High, really fantastic beer (and wine) selection, fantastic owners that take care of the regulars (he hid some KBS for me in the back cooler once-gotta love that), and Bodega, 1044 N. High. The after 5 thing shouldn't be as big a deal as most students have left Ohio State for the summer. And, if it's crowded, head north up the street a couple blocks to Surly Girl, good music, good beer, good vibe and the Frito Pie, excellent.

Nearby to Crew Stadium? Not a ton. But elsewhere, there's plenty of places to hit up.

Savor Growl is pretty damned awesome, has a bunch of taps, a full on bottle selection (from Natty all the way up) glassware, and wines. It's on Indianola, as is The Crest, Weilands, and the Savor Market. 4th St is a pretty cool place, and they have a small selection of bottles and 6/4 packs as well. If you are going to stop at 4th St, you might as well stop by Seventh Son Brewing on 4th as well. They've really started hitting their stride, from what I've seen while delivering in Columbus. The Barrel and Bottle in North Market behind Barley's Brewing on North High, as already mentioned, is pretty cool, if a bit limited in overall selection. They make up for it in quality, often getting things or having things that others don't. There's a World Of Beer in German Village that is pretty nice, has some pretty good stuff there as well.

If you are on the west side of campus, The Daily Growler on the corner of Fishinger and Riverside is an awesome place, 60 taps, and pretty much all are available in 5oz, pints, and growlers.

BTW, helpful word of advice: Bring a Powerade or 2 with you, and save the bottle, fill it with water while you are there. Prices are STUPID at ROTR. Used to be able to get Donatos Pizza there, which I personally love, but they changed sponsors, so now it's Papa John's. Also, skip X Factor 1 if at all possible. They are terrible :stuck_out_tongue:

haha Appreciate the advice. This is my 4th time to ROTR so I have the lay of the land of the event pretty well but this is my first trip since I've been more interested in finding good beer stops.

Luckily this year the only bands I'm interested in are the headliners on Saturday and Sunday so I'm not going to be getting there until around 5pm each day. I'm too old for the all-day festival now days.

Do yourself a favor and check out The Sword on Saturday at 4:15. They are an awesome band.

Appreciate the suggestions, everyone. Had a great time at the show and I was able to hit up Weilands. Picked up a couple bottles of Bruery stuff that isn't available in Western PA so it was a good little trip out of the way.

    Cheers!

Hello all! I will be traveling to your fair city in about a month for the weekend and am willing to haul along some beer from my distro for IP trades if anyone is interested in Surly, Odell, deschutes, NG, etc. or just in grabbing a beer.
Also would be interested in any bottle shares that may be going on from 6-21 to 6-23

    Thanks
    Dietrich

I would love to try some Deschutes/Surly stuff! Anything in particular you would be looking for? Also, I'm always down for going out for drinks - there are a ton of great options in Columbus.
