Mike, sorry, but you never "shopped" in my store. The only time I ever saw you was for special releases. Chris is spot on with everything that he said. You asked me to put 2 6pks of White Rajah aside for you..you came in and said you only wanted one and said it was due to the fact that you had just come from Weilands and dropped $80. You proceeded to buy nothing else from me until you wanted CBS. I had to buy 25cs of Founder's beers in order to get 12 btls of CBS. Everyone that was on my reserve list had to buy 2 6pks and none of them bitched about it. As for the KBS, yeah, I told you no, though I had to tell you that twice. If you remember, you called the shop asking about it and I told you that it was being reserved for the customers that actually spent money in the store but you didn't take no for an answer and proceeded to send me a beermail making sure I had a 4pk set aside for you. That is when I responded and told you again no and the reason being was that you didn't shop in my store. And by the way, no one that got KBS from me had to buy anything else, that was strictly for CBS. So, sorry if you are put off by my shop but when it comes to limited releases like this I do have to look out for those customers that at least show their face once a month in the shop. Cheers....

Man this turned into an ugly thread. Not sure why Mike's under attack, he didn't bring up FTV and was only defending himself.

For what its worth I don't generally drive to FTV either, for the same reason (a little extra mileage for about the same selection as my local shops).

Bodega, Barley's (for the food, their beer is meh), Columbus Brewing Company, North Market (great food, and Barrel and Bottle is inside the market for some bottle shopping).

And as a Devil's Advocate (see what I did there?) I've liked From The Vine when I've shopped there. However, the store is not a beer first store. Anyone who expects it to be is mistaken.

I love the vibe of Bob's bar for a Saturday night. Grab some friends, get some good beer, shoot a little pool, shoot the shit with some cool people you might not have otherwise met. It IS the cultural hub of the midwest after all! LOL!! I've heard there have been a few bottles of Cantillon show up, but I've never been able to get any there. Columbus brewing food is really good, plus the bonus of having Bodhi on tap for like the last month. Just check the hours as they are weird - closes at 10 most nights and not open Sunday I think. Bodega is a great place to hang out, but it gets crazy busy, and lots of hipsters, so if that's not your scene, come early or later. Barleys smokehouse wings are the f'ing bomb....They have some great beers and some so so ones, but with guest taps, you should be able to find some good beers you like. I really like winking lizard because its fairly close to my house, the beer selection is nice and the food is solid.

I have to comment on this whole banter back and forth about From the Vine. If you are someone who shops there a lot, you more than likely are taken care of. The vibe I got the few times I shopped there was if i know you, I'll spend time with you, if not, you're on your own. That doesn't bother me as the selection isn't great or large and I'm very able to pick through beers on my own accord. It's a wine store trying to cater to both markets, but it's obvious wine is what sells there...it's ~85%+ of the store. Does a fairly good job at both, but it's like your girlfriend of 7 years, committ or give it up. It's apparent there's a select few BA's who are on the in with the owner and who will go to war over the store and many others who see it for what it's worth. I guess the only thing I can say is if you want to dig through the hype, visit it and make your own decision.

    P.S. Op - I like the avatar!

Ya know, if you dont like a beer, dont drink it. Dont like a beer event, dont go. If you dont like a beer shop, dont shop there. End of story. Why do people have to make a point on here to say they dont like something and here is the million reasons why? I dont feel thats what this site is for, its about the craft beer community as a positive, not as a negative. Im just happy that Im able to get good craft beer at all, no matter what brewery it came from or how much I spent or how far I had to drive to get it or even what store I got it from. "Respect Beer" I think that means alot more then just beer, It means the whole craft beer community.

Is this a response to my post? Please clarify and if so, please let me know and I'll give you very explecit details about my feelings and experience with this shop.

I'm not trying to get on any side, but you need to be mindful people are entitled to their opinions, whether that meshes with yours or not.

Just saw this, if you're still around town and haven't found any I saw some at Gentiles. but any of the shops mentioned likely got some, just call to see if there's any left.

I do my best not to drink the water when I'm in Columbus

Though when I DO go down to see family, I've been to Columbus Brewing Company a couple times and I like it quite a bit. Can't speak to much beyond that, but the food is tasty as are the beers- its a great little brewpub in a cool area, IMO.

I hate that I have to click on your avatar to confirm why you're bashing the OH water. But I guess that's a complaint more for the site help forum.

Glad to help. I don't even buy bottles there but remembered seeing it last Friday while buying supplies for the Big Brew Day at CBC on Saturday. Incidentally they have the best selection of homebrewing supplies and ingrediants of any homebrew store I have yet seen.
