I have searched the threads, but wanted to ask the group what are some must hit spots in Columbus, Ohio...ill be visiting in two weeks....stopping at Jackie Os (seems like a 6 bottle limit on barrel aged stuff). I'll looking for great brews and bottles that are unique to the area. Coming from Pgh. Thanks in advance.

The best bottle shops in the Columbus are Anderson's in Dublin and Crafted Drafts. Both are good places to pick up local brews. I would definitely get Fat Head's Head Hunter IPA and Brew Kettle's White Rajah if they aren't available in PA. Crafted Drafts gets some really bizarre, rare releases (aka non-local releases) sometimes and the staff is super knowledgeable. Their social media feeds will give you an idea of what they offer.

The best breweries in Columbus (IMO) are Hoof Hearted, Wolf's Ridge, and Seventh Son. HH recently opened a brewpub serving artsy food and most of their staple brews. At this point, cans from HH are hard to get; they are brewery-only releases in Marengo, OH-- about 30 mins from Columbus. If you're here on a Sunday, you might be able to make a Marengo release, but they're ticketed events through Facebook. Otherwise, they fill growlers at the brewpub. Seventh Son is a short distance (1-2 min drive or 5 min walk) from HH's brewpub. If you're interested in a Marengo release, let me know and I can give more details.

I would consider Columbus Brewing's Bodhi DIPA a Columbus essential, but at this point it isn't bottled. You can get growler fills or find it on tap in most beer-friendly locations in the city. This is the #1 essential Columbus brew, IMO.

The only location I'd say is a complete "pass" would be Four String Brewing. The branding is terrible and every beer I've had has been completely mediocre.

My favorite bottle shops in columbus are aficionados and the new winking lizard lizardville, andersens dublin, weilands in clintonville. White rajah, fat heads head hunter, madtree galaxy high comes out this week, check out wolfs ridge bottles clear sky Daybreak and the cinnamon toast brunch bottles. As for breweries, check out wolfs ridge and hoof hearted along with barleys.

Also look for jackie os bottles. . You might find theor lanthrone and ba dark apparition bottles if not those bottles, dark apparition, oil of aphrodite, brick kiln, and ba brick kiln are often out there.. Cbc bohdi is often at the daily growler in powell or upper Arlington. Rhinegeist peach dodo is a nice brew and their truth ipa is out there.

Planning on making a trip out there later this year, thanks for starting this thread! Seen plenty of Hoof Hearted pics on Instagram, good to know they have a tap room open now as well.

Seventh Son and Wolf's Ridge are in my opinion our best breweries and their taprooms are a great time. Like others said, Crafted Drafts is a great bottle shop. Lots of great beer in Cbus.

Was just up in Columbus for the OSU spring game. Second time visiting and I've made it a point to get to know the breweries.

The must do breweries are definitely Hoof Hearted and Seventh Son. Great thing is they are within walking distance of each other. Hoof has blown up in the past year and produce some solid, dank beers. I personally love Seventh Son. Haven't had a beer I hate.

Interested in going to Zauber brewing, Elevator, and North High.

I've also been planning a Columbus weekend trip (avatar not withstanding).

How busy does the HH brewpub get on Fri/Sat evenings? Likely just me, so I only need a bar seat, but since it is the focus of the trip, I want to make sure I can actually visit it.

Also, I assume walk to/from the Arena area hotels is safe, but would like to confirm.

Do not skip Wolf's Ridge. Huge variety, all great quality beers, and the best tap room in town.

I personally wouldn't walk it, especially in the evening. You'd have to walk through some pretty gnarly neighborhoods to get there. Distance-wise it's close to the Arena District, so an Uber should be very cheap.

And +1 on the previous comment - don't sleep on Wolf's Ridge.

Seconded on using an uber to get to the arena district.

Went on a Friday and it was not packed at all (especially for it being Spring game weekend and Garth Brooks as well). Place was honestly cleared by midnight. Think we walked in around 9 or so and got two seats at the bar.

I'm in agreement hh ridge n 7th r probably the best in the city but I will also throw in actual brewing by the airport n Land-grant r doing good things. If u want a variety of Ohio beer to take home crafted drafts as mentioned as an ample selection plus they do singles.

Not beer related but I highly recommend hitting up Hot Chicken Takeover in the North Market... Absolutely fantastic meal.

I'm traveling from Cincy to Columbus this weekend for the NCAA Lacrosse regionals on Sunday, driving up Friday morning and heading back Sunday evening. We're (pregnant wife) staying in between downtown and OSU's campus and wondering if anyone has any other suggestions/updates to this thread. I'm not really interested in driving anywhere once we get there and am just looking for locals' recommendations for stuff to check out in town within walking distance or short transit/Uber ride as well as good places to grab a beer around there (we lived in downtown Cincy and love comparing the city life). My wife has already taken care of searching reviews for good dessert places, haha, but those are welcome as well.

Weiland's and Crafted Drafts will cover 99% or better of your needs. Bodhi growler/s would be the only thing that you'd have to find, and Weiland's may have it on their growler station, so...

As for breweries, I'd suggest the aforementioned Seventh Son, Wolf's Ridge, and the HH brewpub. I also like Land Grant, I don't think they get talked about enough.

And 2nded on the Hot Chicken Takeover at North Market. While you are there, Barrel and Bottle is another shop to check (which often gets overlooked).

If you make it to Weiland's, Palmer's Beverage is just down the road and has a similar selection. I would agree with the quoted post and say it's 100% of what you could/should accomplish in a weekend in Columbus to get the most done.

    Why thank ya

Side note, if you do decide on HCT, get there early, because it can (and often does) sell out.

Unrelated to beer, North Market is awesome anyways and is well worth stopping by. Spices At North Market makes some of the best spice blends in the world. Their Citrus Adobo rub is a staple in our house.
