I started my Columbus visit with Hot Chicken Takeover and a Bodhi at Barrel and Bottle based on recommendations from the wonderful locals on this forum. If Bodhi is on tap at the time, I'd argue you can't have a better introduction to the city. Have fun! My wife and I certainly did!

    Glad you enjoyed it.

Did you get to anywhere else?

Oh, I got to all sorts of places. I was referring to a trip I took last year for my first Buckeyes game. There's a thread out there somewhere....

I'm strongly considering a return trip to be in the city for The Game this year. Attending The Game would be a bit too steep for my liking, but I'd like to experience the atmosphere around Columbus.

Campus bars are great during the game. If Chumley's is still around (I think they're doing massive renovations on High St. soon), they have a great tap list. I was there during the nation championship game a few years ago and it had an electric atmosphere. Ugly Tuna is also good during games.

It's chaos. Parking, bars, food, all of it. Be prepared to have the patience of a saint while you are driving, or, if you can, park way the hell away and get an Uber for it. You'll thank yourself.

I'm thinking I'll just overnight at the Sheraton again and do another walking tour to the stadium :-) Starting with HCT and a Bodhi obviously!

That's a hell of a walk. Wear some comfy shoes if you do.

3.5 miles is nothing. My wife and I walk everywhere, unless she gets hangry and forces me to Uber. We did a stop just about every mile so it didn't feel like much walking at all really.

It doesn't seem like it's only 3.5 miles from the Sheraton to there. Eh, in that case, it's not too bad. Still, I wouldn't recommend sandals for that walk :stuck_out_tongue:

Ha, that advice is better directed at my wife. We've done a couple of Philly Beer Week walking marathons that she wore inappropriate footwear for because, "Sneakers aren't cute." I think she's officially learned her lesson at this point though. Blisters will do that to ya.

    Very, very rapidly.

    Cheers

Thanks again for everyone's suggestions. We had a great weekend. We tried an airbnb in the Victorian Village - parked our car there Friday morning and didn't touch it again until we left Sunday evening. We walked everywhere except for trying out the CBUS circulator once. I was impressed with how easy it was to walk from place to place, and we never once felt out of our element. Also, the homes in the Victorian Village are amazing.

Friday we walked through some park (Goodale?) and through the Arena district (unsurprisingly just chains and nothing special around the arena) to downtown. We had lunch at Cafe Briosa and checked out downtown. I guess not as much happens downtown as it was surprisingly dead for a Friday afternoon and evening. We walked through the German Village and had food/drink at Schmidt's, where I had the Columbus IPA in preparation for the real deal later that evening. The German Village was very neat with the density of the small, older homes and the cobblestone streets/alleys. We checked out the Brewery District (meh), but there I did get to enjoy Bodhi for the first time at CBC restaurant. We checked out some live music at the Columbus Commons (weather was a bummer) and finished up on High Street with a nightcap from Actual Brewing at House Beer (neat, intimate spot). I also brought back to our place that night a black IPA can from Land Grant as we weren't going to make it there (delicious, for the half I finished before falling asleep).

Saturday, we had brunch at a great spot called Katalina's in the Victorian Village (my wife highly recommends the doughnut balls). We then checked out the North Market for some more food, haha, including some Hot Chicken Takeover as recommended (yum). Unless I was missing something, I was surprised we only saw places to eat rather than stands for fresh produce, etc. We then in succession walked to Wolf's Ridge (awesome tap room), Hoof Hearted brewpub (don't fully get the hype as I just as much if not more enjoyed Wolf's Ridge and Seventh Son, and I think they're trying a bit hard while claiming to not try very hard, but the poutine was damn good) and Seventh Son (enjoyable outside space mixed around some residential in a changing area) where I enjoyed a top notch flight at each establishment.

Sunday we just headed to Buckeye Donuts (simple but good with great service) and walked around campus and then proceeded to roast in the sun at the lacrosse games (earned brownie points for getting the club seats so my wife could sit in the a/c though). Not being a Buckeye fan, Ohio Stadium just seems like any other old bland stadium bowl to me, but I'm sure the atmosphere is slightly different with 100,000 of your closest friends in the fall.

The weather didn't cooperate for most of the weekend, but we fit a bunch in, had some great food/drink and definitely got our steps in, haha. We had never been before, but really had a nice relaxing enjoyable time. We're hoping to do the same in the likes of Indy/Cleveland/Pittsburgh etc. I recommend others try out the same sort of weekend of walking and food/drink here in Cincinnati!
