Comet hops

    i recently brewed a 5 gallon IPA recipe and I used 2oz of Comet hops at 60 minutes, was 2 oz too much for the bittering addition?

    Probably, as Comet is usually a high alpha (>13-14%AA) hop...and fairly rough at that, imho.

    Fact is you will never exceed 100 ibu. Hell, you'll be lucky to hit 80 by the time its all fermented out. RDWHAHB

    2 Oz is reasonable. Definitely nothing to worry about unless you used a bunch of other boil hops you didn't mention. I've never used Comet for bittering, but it's one of my favorites as a late or dry hop.

    5 gallon IPA

    8 LB pale ale 2 row
    4 lb marris otter
    1 lb flaked oats
    13 oz carapil/dextrine
    12 oz caramel malt 20

    hops

    2oz comet at 60
    1,5 oz centenial at 20
    1 oz simcoe at 10
    1oz centenial at 5
    1oz falconers 7CS at FO
    Dry hop 7 days with 3 oz of centenial

    original OG was 1062
    final was 1013

    I did a small yeast starter

    yeast was Omega DIPA
