I'm flying into Raleigh this Sunday for the first time for work. Looking for a great bar to watch some football, drink some awesome beers and have some good food. Any recommendations? I will be staying at the Embassy Suites.

Also, what awesome area breweries can I expect to bring home? Any rarities around?

    Thanks for your help.

The Raleigh places guide is a great place to start. There's a lot of good stuff in the Triangle. Safe travels; cheers!

Lynwood Brewing and Concernn (great wings, lots of TVs. / Trophy Brewing (Best pizza in town) / Busy Bee.

For picking up limited stuff, your best bet would be State of Beer. Tasty Beverage, Ridgewood and Bottle Revolution are all legit as well.

If you can make it to Durham, you need to stop by THE original Sam's and mark it off your list. It's the best bottle shop in North Carolina.

    There ya go.

Are you're staying at the Embassy Suites in Brier Creek? There's a few in the area.

@offtheheezi hit the high points. But if you don't have a ride or have limited ways of getting around, there are several watering holes/ beer stops around you. Carolina Ale House (yeah, it's chain, but has decent food and tons of beer), Lonerider Brewing Company and Gizmo Brewworks (they're both close, so why not?), and Total Wine are all minutes from each other.

    Have a great trip.

Lynwood and Trophy are probably the best 2 breweries in Raleigh. I wouldn't bother with Lonerider. They don't really make anything worth buying. Neither does Gizmo honestly. The stores mentioned above Tasty, Ridgewood Wine and Beer, Bottle Rev, State of Beer are all solid choices with a nice selection. I would say Ridgewood out of that group has the best draft list day in and day out. The other places have more package beer with fewer drafts. Still good stuff on draft though.

Thanks for your input guys. Lynwood Brewing sounds like a perfect Sunday. I travel often and have been all over this great country, but the Carolinas have eluded me up to this point. Looking forward to experiencing them, cheers!

Crank Arm is cool too and you can hit Tasty Beverage in the same block. Just stay away from The Pit BBQ no matter who recommends it. Boxcar arcade is a cool spot with good drafts and old school video games. All of those places are close to each other.

Wicked Weed is probably THE brewery in North Carolina right now. They are located in Asheville but distribute through most of the state. Expensive, but very good IPAs, wilds, and sours. You should be able to find their stuff at any good bottle shop; I found a good selection in Durham (right next door to Raleigh). If you're a trader go for their sours; they trade very well. Look for Black Angel, Freak of Nature DIPA, Pernicious IPA, and Amorous; others will also be good and trade well.

I would recommend Ridgewood, if you can. They have Prairie Bomb! on tap, growler fills too, plus a bunch of other good stuff right now.

It boggles my mind that people would recommend Trophy or Busy Bee for watching football. They're both great places but not in any way set up to watch NFL games. Also don't bother with Gizmo or Lonerider as their beers are forgettable and neither has a good TV setup. In North Raleigh Lynwood Grill & Brewing Concern is a great option as previously mentioned, as is Chow on Creedmoor (which has the added benefit of being adjacent to a good bottle shop in Bottlemixx). If you want to go downtown I like Woody's since they have a great TV setup and excellent wings (and a very good draft selection). Also keep in mind most of the bottle shops have shortened hours on Sundays.
